Jaw issues on the same side as the affected ear?

I've seen various posts that mention some correlations between Meniere's and TMD/TMJD. Though nothing really goes as far as to say anything conclusive.

When I was younger, I used to have a clicking and occasional locking of my jaw on the left side. There was never really any pain, just a slight discomfort caused by a brief limited movement until it "cracked" or otherwise adjusted.

As luck would have it, I also suffered a jaw break on that same side and had surgery with pins inserted to re-join the my jaw.

That was all in my early 20's...as I got older the clicking/locking lessened. I'm now 50 and it still happens occasionally.

Three years ago I started to exhibit Meniere's symptoms in my left ear. The last 9 months have been the worst, with attacks once a week to once every two weeks (when I'm lucky).

I mentioned all this to my ENT, but he didn't seem to think it was related.

My question is, do other sufferers have a history of jaw issues (even minor) on the same side as their Meniere's?

Oh yes, I sure do. When my jaw feels tight and sore on the left, my left ("bad") ear is definitely more stuffed. Massaging that jaw muscle or the opposite shoulder muscle (the dentist explained that the two are related), helps me be able to clear my ear. I've done a little physical therapy for the TMJ and have a splint to wear at night, and both have helped. No history of breaks or surgery.

I have TMJ on the same side as my bad ear too. Last year I spent over $6,000 to see a neuromuscular dentist, who made day and night mouth guards. I couldn't eat or talk properly with the day one, and developed insomnia with the night one, so abandoned treatment.

Next I saw one of Australia's top TMJ physiotherapists. He teaches (and used me during a teaching session once...I got a free treatment out of it).

I specifically asked him if TMJ can affect the inner ear, causing dizziness and he emphatically said no, dizziness would be more likely to be coming from the neck.

I saw him for about six treatments but as he was so expensive, I ran out of private health insurance so stopped going. I'd liked to have continued except for the expense and the sessions were extremely painful.

This FB group are a fantastic, friendly lot, the admin who started it had Menieres for over 20 years which was halted after TMJ treatment https://www.facebook.com/groups/1577831952495456/?ref=bookmarks
