I have lived with meniere's for almost thirty years, diagnosed at 15. Now it is producing symptoms in my other ear. The hyperaccusis is driving me absolutely crazy and not having a good phone ear is terrible. I haven't done any research until the past few days and can't believe the knowledge gained over this time frame. A reduced sodium diet has keep me in check without. Hoping the best for all who actually understand this awful condition. Kevin
Verity, why would you post your drama in a thread where someone is seeking help from suffering? I used to respect Vicki, but if this is done with her approval, then she's lost my respect. OP, I'm sorry you have it in both ears. Have you tried antivirals?
Kevin, I'm sorry you're experiencing the symptoms of this awful disease. As you may have read during your research Antivirals are the most recommended non invasive treatment currently helping many Menieres sufferers. First you need to find out if the dr you're going to see prescribes antiviral treatments for Ménière's disease. I went out of remission after 3 years but I've changed the antiviral and after 1 month I'm feeling so much better. I wish you success in your research. There is much here to learn.
Kevin, that sounds really hard not having a good phone ear. The anti-virals reversed some of my hearing loss. My understanding is that the sooner you get going with them the more likely that is to happen. With your situation, I encourage you to explore that avenue sooner rather than later. You could get started on Lysine right away. If you haven't found it yet John of Ohio's article has a good overview of current thoughts on Meniere's and a regime to help: http://www.zoominternet.net/~kcshop/JOH.PDF
