Hello everyone, I have been looking around for sometime now and I have decided to join. Actually I have tried to join a few menieres site and this is the only I could get on. My question is how do you prepare yourself (if you do) for drop attacks? I am not sure how much I more I can take on.
Unfortunately there is no way to prepare for drop attacks. I have had a few and they are bad. For me, no warning just WHAM like something hits me and I am on the ground. On a positive note, not everyone gets drop attacks so try not to worry about it. For me stress is a major trigger for attacks so the more I can try not to worry and stress....
Hi Daniel The only way to prepare for them is to assume they will happen. There are more "don't" than "do's", like don't drive, etc. Have you tried antivirals? Many of us have found total relief from certain antivirals. You can read my signature for more info.
Drop attacks happen without any notice, like someone running up behind you and hitting you in the back of the head with a baseball bat. You have no notice, no time to react. The good news is only a very small percentage of mm patients experience drop attacks. I think my OTO told me 3%....I was one of the lucky ones
This is my first post and introduction to your forums. Let me first state I have had this life changing condition since 2013 and have been on intratympanic injections since. Drop attacks were somewhat disturbing but I notised an increase with anxiety and/or stress on the neck during the day when they occured. The drop attacks lessened when I was prescribed Medical Marijuana. Confused I investigated why I had relief with this as i do not like MM and was somewhat confused as to why this worked. After two years of investigating, I am still confused as the link is ellusive and the effects are still working so I can say this: There is a definite link for some people who suffer with the drop attacks and with what the MM offers to offset this condition. My relevant data suggest that the relaxation is the true reason the drop attacks are lessoned and suggest that a possible regiment that lessens the stress in your life, might give you similar relief. I am not saying this will work for anyone else other than myself or advocating its use, however my drop attacks are now under control due to this plant which I personally hated till it was necessary to try. The frequency of attacks also increased with sedentary behaviour, when I became more active in walking and exercise this appeared to increase the positive effects of the MM treatment and the drops decreased till stopping just about 4 months ago, cannot tell you what a change in my life this has been. Just the fear of these attacks keeps most from enjoying simple things, like having company over or visiting family, the attacks come without warning and can be a very scary thing for a family member to see and deal with. If this has worked for anyone else please let me know, I have a few friends who have also gone in this direction, they are also much happier since the introduction of the MM into their Meniere's regiment of treatments. Hope this helps, but remember there are many ways to keep stress out of your life and MM is not always the answer as it can actually increase stress on those who do not investigate the proper strains which are bred to relieve stress and anxiety specifically. This information is readily available on the internet and should be fully read before purchasing any product's of this nature.
We have a cannibis thread dedicated to experiences and information regarding its use. I never got any warning with a drop attack. It was always, WHAM. No way to avoid that. But relieving stress goes a long way towards helping symptoms.
Thanks BBea, My point was not about Cannabis, but the fact that relaxation is so integral to getting this under control. The fact it took the Doctor's trying every other medically known treatment, first, to reduce the symptoms, I thought was irrelevant to the thread, my apologies to anyone who was confused by my wording.
I understand what you were talking about. Stress relief. It's hard for so many. These Drs treat Menieres symptoms with all these benzos. They may help for awhile but sooner or later you need increased dosages to maintain any semblance of controlling symptoms which they do not do. What we do to control anxiety and stress is so varied. I like to see everyone's experiences and learning something new everyday.
Thank you all for the replies. My eye site is bad so maybe someone can share a link for me to read about antiviral? I appreciate if anyone could do this and once again thank you all. I am not sure how more I can take of this. And the headaches hurt so bad. Thanks.
How long can a person take them, without doing harm in another way, say the liver or some other part of the body, if that is even a concern?

It is extremely rare for Valtrex to cause liver or kidney problems. Your doctor should take blood tests every 6 months to make sure.
I've had two drop attacks and they were nasty. Once caused a bad ankle sprain and the other caused a shoulder separation. They both happened at night outside. Apparently the lack of visual stimulation (darkness) can bring one on. Now I have the bathroom light on all night and nightlights in my bedroom and the hall.
