Hi - Does this always progress to vertigo? I had one episode of aural fullness and low frequency hearing loss 3 years ago, then no episodes till August 2015 then 6 episodes between August and November 2015. Now today I woke up with first episode in 5 months. No vertigo as of today. I started taking an antihistamine in December and thought it was keeping attacks at bay so I was very discouraged to wake up again with this. I've been low sodium religiously since August. What can I expect going forward? Thank you. Susan

Susan, often it does proogress to include vertigo and permanent hearing loss but not always. My dr told me to do whatever i could to reduce the number of episodes because each episode reduced the elasticity of the inner ear and took it a step closer to classic menieres (vertigo).

I was diagnosed 9 years ago with cochlear hydrops. At that time it was progressing. Antivirals and allergy shots stopped the progression and returned my hearing loss. I was treated by my family dr in pennsylvania and dr derebery at house ear clinic in LA. Good luck.

I just saw Dr. Derebery and she thinks i have Cochlear Hydrops and prescribed diuretic (dyazide) and a low sodium diet (under 1500/mg/day). She hasn't prescribed any antivirals.. but that makes sense since she doesn't think it has anything to do with a virus... The other ENT still thinks it's a virus and has ordered a bunch of blood work.

June - Did Dr. Derebery tell you that it does usually lead to Menieres? Do you get bouts of hearing loss?

    :(

SueB - How are you doing?

    Hi

I am also being treated by Doctor Dereberry for cochlear hydrop. I asked her if it will lead to the classic meniere, she told me no. When I first started seeing her, she always put me on diuretics and sodium 1500mg/day but I really didn't think it's working. Sometimes I don't even eat and still have fullness in my ear. I saw another doc and was prescribed Valtrex for 3000mg/day. It worked a little but I wasn't able to keep the fullness at bay. I went back to Dereberry and She switched me from Valtrex to famvir. I'm not having a good result with famvir so far. I'll try to make another appointment with her

What are the main symptoms you guys experience daily given you have endolymphatic hydrops?

Did you mean cochlear hydrops? Endolymphatic would imvolve balance or vertigo.

Yes I meant cochlear hydrops, not endolympathic hydrops.
