Hello. I haven't been on for a while, but thought I'd check in. I had a VNS two years ago. It destroyed my hearing, but stopped the vertigo. HOWEVER, things haven't been perfect. There is still 10% function in the operated ear and it can cause severe imbalance. I recently had two gent injections, but not sure if they are working (had the closest thing to a vertigo attack today, but no spinning). Has anyone had a LABY after a VNS (or several gent attempts)? I'd love to hear your experience!! Thanks. -Jen

I'll have to let you know. I had my VNS in 2010. It stopped the drop attacks I was having. It also stopped full rotational vertigo, but I still would get what I call "episodes". It'd be like a back and forth vertigo. Up until four or five months ago, they were few and far in between.

I am not sure if it's the bad ear acting up, or if I am going bi-lateral. I'll have to let you know what my neurotologist says. I hope to see him next month as I finally managed to find a health plan that will cover him.

The one thing I can tell you is any doctor will be reluctant to do a laby if there is any amount of residual hearing.

My hearing is gone, so the laby is an option for me. I hate to go through another surgery, but I want this GONE. From the old forum, I've learned that many, many folks think that the laby "cured" them. In any case, I'm just wondering if the gent shots I got 4 weeks ago are finally kicking in....hence the symptoms. Do you have experience with gent after laby?

I have almost no menieres symptoms after my laby which was done in Dec 2011. I would surely have the Laby now and stop the signals from reaching the brain . Good Luck

I had the VNS done 15 years ago. I was good for 8 years. Some symptoms returned. They retested the ear and found that part of my nerve fibers grew back.. ughhh I had 5 gent injections after that. Back when I had the gents done the doctor said it could be migraine related also. Something else to consider. Also neck issues. Been working on the neck issues on my own now... gave up on pt, drs neck injections. TIRED OF IT. So as long as i watch my posture and stretching things are getting much better. Rainy days are still a challange.

VNS in 2002 no problems. Hearing in the left ear is not good.

Hearing in the Right ear normal. Instead of getting a Laby why not get your
ear cleaned out to get rid of whatever he left behind that is causing you problems.

I was lucky I had my VNS done at the House in Calif I guess they got it all out
Have perfect balance no vertigo or dizziness since.

In the future I might consider an implant to restore my hearing in the operated
ear. I am in no rush I hear just fine with one ear.

    VNS May 2013

no side effects, better balance and was riding a bike a month after, doing aerobics, etc, ...best decision ever made

hearing is nearly gone..but already was before surgery..so for me I will take that to know I can have any job I want, be in any situation, caring for my kids and NEVER have a drop attack out of the blue.

I had mine not just cut, severed..but tied in a knot..my neurosurgeon deals only w/ Meniere's and hasn't had any of his patients come back because the nerves grew back...not possible if they are not only cut, sized and then tied.

I should have done it years ago. I think of all I missed out on. Best of luck, Nicole Orlando Fl
