A friend of mine has to wear ear plugs all day she has a sensitivity to noise She gets dizzy/vertigo Is there any cure for that? Has anyone heard of this problem. Its not tinnitus. Its a type of menieres. Joan
I thinks it's called Tullio's Phenomenon. Don't have time to Google it at the moment, but I thinks it's most commonly caused by superior canal dehiscence. This is when a piece of bone is missing in the inner ear, causing membrane to be exposed.
When my menieres was at its worst and I was sleeping a loud bang would often wake me up. It wasn't an external noise it was inside my head.It was about the same time I had drop attacks.
Hi. Here is a link that I think you should take a look at. I have this also from time to time, and it's very annoying to say the least. It's called hyperacausis...basically, sensitivity to sound. I find when I get this myself, I just have to be in a "quiet" place until it subsides. Hope this helps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperacusis
I am sensitive to sound as well, and some sounds make my tinnitus much worse especially high pitched sounds. When I had my hearing test a couple of months ago and she played a very high pitched tone my right ear (MM ear) went completely deaf and the loudest most horrible tinnitus started, it lasted a couple of minutes then stopped. But it was unpleasant. Loud TV or radio or music starts off loud tinnitus in my right ear as most loud sounds do, but I find other people do not think the sounds are that loud as I do.
We have a band at church and it rather loud didn't bother me 6months ago but now I can't sit in service until the music is done. I get dizzy and nauseated.
When my CH was at its worst, certain bass sounds in music would nauseate me. The dr did not find this surprising. Since my successful treatment with antivirals and allergy treatments this went away with the other symptoms. Actually, I think the av's alone got rid of it.
Jaypr - I've had that same experience of having a loud bang in my head. It makes me apprehensive when it happens, although it doesn't happen often, but it makes me wonder at the time if I'm having a stroke.
I used to have a sound of a wrench banging on pipes every night just as I fell asleep. That too went away when the other symptoms did.
I keep earplugs with me at all times. At certain movies where it is too loud, restaurants or concerts the loud noises hurt my ears and will cause a vertigo attack.
Thanks everyone for your responses. My friend is going in July to a special clinic in Chicago that handles this type of problem. I am afraid that there wont be much they can do Maybe drugs.
