Hi, I don't spend too much time here, I just check in every once in a while to see if there is anything new that is helping us Meniere's sufferers. I ran across something called Upper Cervical Care. They deal with C1 and C2 and believe it could help with menieres (but they also refer to prior injuries). My niece ended up with "menieres". But... it was due to a whiplash. From what I understand, she was put in a machine that turned here every which way but loose and it took care of the problem. I think the majority of us, didn't have an injury, but just ended up with menieres. Has anyone here tried this and did it seem to help at all. Right now, what seems to be bothering me more is the almost constant head pressure and it seems to be getting worse. I was at a drs. office yesterday... there was a low roar from a machine. Yes, it went straight to my head.
I tried it and it didn't do anything. If the disease is viral, and that seems to be the best fit, then it won't matter what you do to your spine, etc. Have you tried antivirals?
Thank You for your response. As an experiment, I was placed on 4 antibiotics - an antiviral, antibacterial, a pill that is used to treat diarrhea due to intestinal parasite infections (which I didn't have) and an antifungal. Acyclovir - 800mg 4 x daily - 3 weeks on and 1 week off. Doxycycline - 100 mg 2 x a day. Alicia (aka Nitazoxanide, Nizzonide) - 500 mg - 2 x a day. And, Fluconazole - 100 mg 1 x a day. The dr said I would be on these for a year. We've backed off on the Doxy and Fluconazole. They were working great for 6 months, then I started having light - medium vertigo attacks, which are now more frequent. It will be a year in Sept. It seems that low tone sounds and/or eye and head movement are triggers for the head pressures now.
The machine you refer to could possibly be the Omnimax chair which treats BPPV. I have extensively tried cervical treatments including NUCCA and seeing a physio who specializes in the Watson Headache Technique. They work specifically on the neck for both headaches and dizziness.
Thank You for your information. Yes, it was probably the Omnimax chair. I don't get headaches very often. But, what I do get is the head pressure. I can tell the difference because I have had the pressure, then got a small headache on top of it. The head pressures seem to be getting worse and can start at the least little thing, as I mentioned...a low roar of a machine at the dr's office. Also, the feeling of a dizzy or vertigo attack if I move my eyes a certain way, or tilt my head a certain way. This is very frustrating.
Hi, I found this link. Seems promising http://hearinglosshelp.com/blog/atlas-adjustments-alleviate-menieres-disease/ I am actually trying out an atlas correction on Tuesday. Not with chiropractor, but calles Atlas Profilax (Swiss based). Would relax the deep muscles in the neck so the atlas can return to normal position. Just wanted to try it out. We will see whether any effect Kr
I have been going to upper cervical for at least 4 years. Like anything I believe some of the success is based solely on the doctor you go to. I can't say for certain that it helped my vertigo, but it did absolutely help my headaches, neck tightness and got rid of a remaining limp that I had after tearing my ACL.
Thank You, E of B and nicmger for the info. I appreciate any and all input into this. If it just relieves some of the symptoms, it seems it would be worth trying. I have checked locally and there is someone here that performs the Blair Technique mentioned in your (E of B) post. E of B, please keep us all informed of how it goes for you.
Hi Chris, Had my appointment last Tuesday August 2nd so still early days. As a background for my case, have a Meniere diagnosis since 2003-2005. Live in Europe so have been on Betahistine (SERC) for ages with quite good success. However, last summer 2,5 months of on and off meniere symptoms. Hot/ humid weather and stress combination trigger my meniere. Did get finally release when I followed an Udemy vertigo course; basically some accupressure under ear and across bottom skull combined with heating pad. Did it a full day, got huge tinnitus during the night but better the following day and stable. Started Acyclovir then also for a week (zoster regimen 5/day for a week). Was ok until mid June 2016: instead of right ear for more than 12 years now the left ear: used same technique, got release but ears always kept filling back up (with new tinnitus sound in left ear when it had drained). Went on Acyclovir (for 5 weeks) and started John of Ohio regimen. Did get reaction of increased tinnitus and filling up after that. Had feeling that heating pad/Accupressure allowed to subdue vertigo. But didn't really feel well. Got better after 3 weeks, but about 8 days before my treatment now the left ear started filling up with bad hearing disorder (hot weather again). Had stopped acyclovir (ran out of prescription), but increased L Lysine to 4500. So got similar reaction as when starting out with Acyclovir. Anyway, the treatment of last Tuesday is called Atlas Profilax. It uses a vibrating instrument, which works on massaging deep into the muscles connecting skull with neck/ears. Noticed she treated similar points as in the accupressure, but it clearly went deeper than I could myself. It was painful at some of the points (but bearable). She mentioned those muscles were really hard to get through. The theory is that the Atlas will resume natural position if these muscles are softened. Do realise now I did my own accupressure quite superficially in past weeks. Can feel the soreness still at certain points. She gave me also prescription for Niancine and vertigoheel. Anyway, for now, the cycle of filling up the ears has stopped (touch wood), tinnitus to more normal levels (both ears, still a bit more in the left) and quite some relief on hearing distortions. So early days but encouraging. Also quite more energy. Weather was also not hot in past week, so not sure what helped. Maybe it is the JOH regimen kicking in? Anyway need to go back in 4 weeks time for follow up and continuation (not everything could be entangled). It was performed by a regular, although a bit alternative MD. Hope this is useful for someone. Kr Eddy
Hi E of B. Thank You for the update of your appt. I can't really relate the Meniere's to hot weather. I live in Las Vegas, NV. Temp was only 101 today, it has been cooling down for a few days. Summers here average around 110 for a couple of months. Mostly, what has been bothering me lately are the head pressures and I have some dizzy days. The last head pressure a couple of weeks ago was the worst... on a scale of 1 - 10...a 9. Going in tomorrow for an MRI of the brain. Dr. wants to make sure nothing else is happening. I don't think the vibrating instrument would work well with me...I think it may bring on an attack. Low rumbles/tones - sound, certain ways I turn my head, certain eye movements, etc., bring on the head pressures and/or vertigo attacks. Tinnitus seems to be getting worse, now starting in the opposite ear. Also the fullness feeling in the ear is happening more often. Because of neck issues, I am considering the Upper Cervical care. Please keep us all updated on your progress. I'm anxious to know how it goes. Thanks.
H Chris Sadly have to report that on Sunday my "old" right ear started filling up again, tinnitus increase and release during the night with room spinning. Got then better for a couple of days to start having hearing distortions in left ear on Thursday. External sounds booming in head. Right ear tinnitus up again. Not good. Hoping it is the getting worse before it improves credo. But not that hopeful. Kr Eddy
Hi Eddy, I'm sorry to hear of the returning issues. You mentioned you have to go back in 4 weeks for a follow up. Hopefully, what they did helped, but maybe muscles started moving back to cause pressures. Hopefully, you'll return for the follow up and it will help again for a longer period of time, each time. Thank You for the update. Please continue to let us all know how you are doing with this process.
