I had said I would give an update after my appointment today. The rupture in the eardrum is still there but he said it looks like it healing up, although it does look irritated and red. They did not do a new audiogram like I thought they would but instead used those ear plug thingies that they do to see how sound is bouncing off the eardrum, or something like that. The left is normal. The right is not. No improvement in hearing. He said to come back in a couple of months if there is still no improvement. Since he's a new doctor to me he asked me a lot about my symptoms of Meniere's Disease and who diagnosed it. He kept asking if when I get an attack my hearing declines and do I have ear fullness? Yes, and yes and tinnitus too. Have I ever had an MRI? Yes. Have I ever had an abnormal hearing test. Yes. Do the attacks last hours or days? Hours, like 6 to 10 hours at a time. Do I do a low sodium diet and take a water pill. Yes to the diet and not currently to the water pill. Can't he get all that from my records I had sent over there from my first appointment? Or did he not bother to read them?? Anyway he did not seemed concerned about it. He said it could take weeks or a couple of months to heal up and hearing go back to normal. We'll see. I made an appointment with an ophthalmologist about the blurry vision. I am really going to hate it if I have to buy another pair of glasses so soon. Guess I'll do what ever I have to do. I really am attached to being able to see so I'll cough up the money for some new ones if necessary. LOL No attacks in last week and a half. Doing the happy dance on that one.
I am.so.happy about no attacks. There are so few good doctors, I am not surprised. What do.you attribute the lack of attacks to? Continued good health. You have been through so much you deserve it. Take care.
Thank you both! I'm pretty irritated with doctors at this point. I'm at the end of my rope. Unless I start having massive attacks like I was in the spring then I am NOT going back to the darn doctors. The freakin' hole can stay in my ear for all I care now. I really liked my first ent but he said he had done all he could do and sent me to a different doctor. That one did the gent shots and on appointment number three his bedside manner sucked and he was rude. Hence the hunt for ent number three when my ear drum ruptured. First appointment there confirmed perforation and did hearing test showing hearing loss and come back in a month. Then today the doctor told me to come back only if it didn't get better in a couple of months. Months??!! The hearing in my right ear is crap so I would think he'd want to do another audiogram to see if there has been any improvement or worsening. Nope. I GIVE UP! I'm done. No more doctors unless I'm on my last breath and one of my ears fall off.
I'm sorry I forgot to answer your question. I attribute the improvement in severity and frequency of attacks to the two gent shots I've gotten, staying on a strict low sodium diet, cut out caffeine, etc. If it comes back really bad then I'll just ride it out. I don't trust any of the doctors at this point.
