    I'm in Toronto, Canada, and the wait time is 2 years!! How about you? Maybe I' can travel to the states, 2 years is ridiculous.

    Wow.

    If you can travel, go directly to Dr. Gacek and get on his protocol?

    I was surprised that the wait time for a specialist does not correlate with their 'fame' or helpfulness in my experience. I got an apt with dr derebery in a month, always wait 3 months for one here in pittsburgh but only a few weeks for another. Go figure.

    I'm hoping for more replies to get an idea what's available close to me.

    @scott - I've tried his protocal for 3 weeks on acyclovir had digestive symptoms and finished the course, no results. At this point I just want to get diagnosed properly.

    @IvyDivy - what is his/her name?

    @June- Is she a Neurotologist or just an ENT? Seems she's well liked. The goal really for me in seeing one is to get a proper diagnosis since the doctors here don't agree what my diagnosis is.

    I know one in West Orange, NJ. She's very, very good. She's an Otolarygologist.
    PM me if you want details.

    I beleive she is an allergist and an otologist, not sure she is a neurotologist. Check the House Ear Website. She is always listed in top docs articles and well recognized professionally. I like her, well mainly because she restored my hearing and halted the progression of the disease, but i think she was able to do that because although she does some surgery, she is not just a surgeon in her approach. Many of the oto's i have seen seem to be just waiting til they can justify surgery. Dr d on the other hand, looks at it from many perspectives and in my case found treatments that restored my hearing.

    I sent her a one page letter summarizing my situation along with copies of audiograms and other test results and asked if she might be able to help me. In a couple weeks, she called and after a short discussion i made an apt for about a month from that time. She sees people from all over the world and is very busy so go in with your information and questions organized. She has always answered every single question i had but she does not waste a lot of time so i would let her know your expectations before you go so you wont feel the trip was wasted. I have been going once a year for 8 years.

    Having said all that, better check prices ahead of time. I dont know what it would be like without insurance,

    I see Dr. Robertson in Hamilton. My referral to him took maybe 2-3 months? Its been a couple of years so cant quite remember. I believe he is an Otologist? I know for sure hes a surgeon. My family doctor said he specializes in dizziness and balance disorders. Ive been seeing him for a couple years now, hes a nice guy.

    June - Yes prices would be the first thing I check, she seems great but all the way on the west, on the other hand always wanted to check out LA for myself so who knows.

    Qntario - Thanks for the suggestion, I've actually heard good things about him from another board as well. I called his office and they're renovating right now.
