I haven't been on this board in forever so I wanted to stop by and give an update...and hope for others.

I've now been on Valacyclovir for 17 months and still doing great. I started with the 3 times a day for 3 weeks, then 2 a day for 3 weeks and now on the maintenance dose of 1 pill a day. I’ve had no vertigo since taking the Valacyclovir. Some minor dizziness but I never know if that’s from the prescription and supplements or just a side effect of MM.

I reduced the number of JOH supplements I was taking and seem to be doing well. My doctor continues to monitor my kidney and liver function with blood draws every 6 months to ensure there is no damage from the extended use of the prescription. Those who take Valacyclovir...how long do you remain on the maintenance dose? I’m contemplating taking it every other day but terrified that the vertigo may return. My doctor said she’s comfortable with whatever I decide.

A trigger for me is definitely gluten. I'm totally gluten free and it has helped tremendously. Now if I dine out and there happens to be gluten in something I immediately get the brain fog, dizziness, headache and my bad ear starts to feel full. I'm also eating organic foods as much as possible and exercising regularly. I've also cut back on my NUCCA appointments to every 8 weeks.

    Awesome news!

I take the maintenance dose of 1 gram daily. I would not cut back any further than that. Adverse reactions are so rare it's not worth worrying about if you're getting the biyearly blood draws. You can probably cut back on all the other stuff.

I too, have been missing from this wonderful forum. This forum is where I found relief from vertigo and aural fullness.

I have been taking Valacyclovir for 20 months. It was the 3rd month when I last had a vertigo episode. So, I have been vertigo free for 17 months. I stayed on 3 grams for a year before dropping to 2 grams.

For the last five months I have been on 1 gram maintenance dose. There was a few days when I didn't take any and I had what I thought was MM symptoms. However; after further reflections I could have just been experiencing allergy symptoms. I haven't tried not taking the maintenance dose again.

Before valacyclovir I had all of the rotten symptoms; Vertigo, aural fullness, brain fog, strange noises-hammers hitting pipes, etc.

Now- if I could only get rid of Tinnitus!

    Good Health to All!!

    I wish you well Glynis.

I had taken acyclovir for five months before taking the valacyclovir. The acyclovir wasn't working for me. When I switched to valacyclovir I also started taking OPC. I still take OPC. It's great for circulation. I get it from Wholehealth. I also take a spray of Flonase every morning. And I take one gram of valacyclovir every morning.

This is my regimen and it's working for me.

Those five months on acyclovir were HELL. Vertigo, dizzies almost every day.

Wow Santa that is good to know. Acyclovir worked for me until I reduced the dose. Then when I went to increase it, it no longer worked. I just started on Vacyclovior, but not the right dose. I have call in to increase it to 3000mg. I hope.I.have your success.

That's wonderful, Sara78! Thanks for stopping by to share the good news.

You could write to Dr. Gacek and get his opinion about reducing to every other day. I imagine he'll be happy to hear your story.
