My hearing has stayed about the same, but due to the distortion, he does recommend looking into a more updated hearing aid. (I just bought one--not cheap but not the 'top of the line' and was told the newest ones can help with hearing distortion. Anyone here want to comment on that recommendation? Have you tried it and found that to be true or should I stick with the one I just bought? The most disturbing part of my visit was he doesn't have anything more to offer for my daily head pressure and dizziness. Said he has to say the same to his other patients, he 'wishes he did' but there just isn't anything more to offer at this point. He is a highly respected Neuro-ent, with affiliation with a major teaching hospital in the Mid-west, and this is what he is saying. I go back in 6 mos. for another audiogram to see how my hearing is doing. I'm having awful dizziness (not vertigo--don't have that anymore since the shunt surgery--and he said I 'won't' have that anymore)! But the anxiety and feeling nauseated and causing my stomach to be upset 'alot' is so hard to deal with. So, that's my news for the day! Hope some or all of you have some comments to offer and do hope you are having better days.
Good news is that your hearing is staying about the same. I'm sorry you are feeling the daily head pressure and dizziness and sympathize with you. I've been feeling the same with the added ear fluttering and today ear "thumping". I'm just waiting for the bad one to hit any minute. I know it is so frustrating and hard to hear the doctor say "there is nothing I can do, you just have to live with it". I can't help but think, if it was the doctors themselves experiencing this, they would understand it better and work a little harder to find something that would work. I know it is not a consolation to know that there are others out there like you, but please know you are not alone and there are a lot of prayers out there for all of us.
Hi yanksgirl, I am new. I don't have anything to offer on the hearing aids. I just had to comment because your post sounds exactly like what I've been experiencing - this ongoing feeling of terrible head fog, nausea and ear pressure. Dizzy is a word for it but doesn't quite seem to describe it for me. I had vertigo a number of times in the past with maybe a week of this afterward. But this time it just won't stop. Does yours ever come and go?
Well, sounds like we all are going thru similar, if not exactly the same things. I agree if one of these doctor's was dealing with this themselves--they'd be 'knocking on door' and saying, 'something has to be done'! Actually, I told my primary that. I told him 'if you were sitting here where I am and feeling like I do--you'd say, please do 'something' to try to help me! He agreed, but said it was in the Ent's corner and as far as the rest of me--I'm fine. I always tell people I'm fine from the neck down. And I'm a 'dizzy dame'--trying to make light of it--they smile but no one, but those here truly know what this is all about! Brain fog, feeling like your head weighs a ton, having to walk and turn carefully and finally it 'wears you out'--you feel nauseated and all you want to do is lie down--and Lillie- yes mine comes and goes but used to last maybe 1/2 a day and might come on for a short time, but now it's mostly all day (sometimes not as badly) but for the most part--all day! I'd go crazy if I didn't get out and try to focus on other things and at home too. I keep thinking it's not all the Meniere's but maybe drugs I take or something else going on. My go 'off' all my meds and start over with the ones I have to have and see if perhaps side effects could be a part of what is affecting me. You never know.
ps 'May' try to go off meds! typo error! Another of these eye/hand coordination things. I can barely write a note by hand anymore--my hand begins to shake when I do.
Yeah, just think - If Drs could do the Vulcan Mind Meld (Star Trek) they would understand this on a whole new level. Since my last sever vertigo attack, about four weeks ago, I have never gotten back to normal, not even for five minutes. It's scary driving anywhere so I'm staying home except for necessities. The severity varies but I always have some degree of ear/head pressure, nausea, tinnitus and brain haze. Does it go on this long for anyone else? Am I ever going to get a day/hour off? yanksgirl, I hope you get it figured out. I guess none of us can accept the idea that there's no cure. Hopefully some bright young researcher is working on this somewhere.
Yanks girl, I'm sorry you're having such a hard time of it. I wish I had more to offer. I'm on Antivirals and they are helping though it took 3-4 months. Attacks are rare now and if I do have one its not as violent and doesn't last long. My hearing has improved. Still have small balance issues occasionally. Most of my drives are within 10 minutes of my home. There are some lanes running around the entire mall. I love practicing driving that with all of the curves. I only have to concentrate to stay within the lanes. I'm a better driver now as I'm so very cautious. Geez, when will they figure this monster of a disease out. ((((HUGS))))
