Recently I have noticed that people will talk to me and sometimes I know they are talking but whatever they are saying doesnt connect. I cant understand anything they are saying. Is this part of mm? If so, is there a part of joh regime I should be increasing? I have been having wonderful results with joh regime, and my ent seems to be willing to work with me on the research. Please I have to make an appointment with ent and want to go in with information she will accept. Thanks everyone!
You need to see an neurotologist and let them do the appropriate testing to rule out all the other possibilities before looking for a treatment. There are many possibilities that might be causing this. Make sure the ent is aware of what you described here. It may guide the testing. In answer to your question, in my experience, menieres or cochlear hydrops can cause distortion but i do not thing is would cause the connection to understanding to be bothered but i think other things might. But dont lets guess, make sure you get proper testing so nothing important is overlooked. Once everything else is ruled out, that is the time to look at alternatives.
I have the same issue more often in recent months. Some times I have to ask the person to repeat themselves before I understand what they said. And sometimes I just nod and agree as long as it seems like the right response to whatever it was that they said, especially if I have gotten tired of having to ask someone to repeat what they said. There are sometimes I hear what the people said but the way they say some words it sounds like they said something else, so it takes a little bit to fully comprehend what they said and meant before I can even respond to what they said. This is really starting to annoy me big time.
Same here. My husband has to repeat so many things and he knows what I'm dealing with and tries to be patient but it gets on his nerves at times--I can tell. The biggest thing is 'distortion' of TV programs (I use closed caption alot) and music--the real thing I'm missing so much. It sounds distorted and instruments sound 'tinney' to me. I try singing--have all my life in choirs, etc.--and now my own voice sounds 'strange' to me and it's hard to get the right 'pitch'. I'm told the newer hearing aids can help. I just got one about 6 mos. ago--not an expensive one--with the latest digital programs for this type of hearing loss I guess. But the best this company my insurance contracts with. So, I have a new one that helps me hear but not well. My neuro-ent has suggested getting a better one--but I'm hesitant due to cost (but if it would make a difference-I would anyway), but afraid it won't and once you have one after a few days--you can't return it if things go 'sour'. Cheapest among the better brands would be $1800.00! So--I may 'go for one' but want to get this other new one adjusted one more time before I do. It makes me so nervous in crowds trying to understand conversations. My nerves are about shot due to all this. Hope you find some help too. Let us know if you do.
Distortion of speech from electronic devices like tv, answering machines etc was a huge problem for me and i do not think you will find a hearing aid that will help with this. This particular symptom is the one that antivirals really worked miracles for for me, more than anything else. (My post above was in response to what i thought was hearing but not understanding language mroe than distortion.) I did a lot of nodding and smiling because i am deaf in one ear, until one day i did that to a woman on my deaf side, while sitting in the vet's office. She got a horrified look on her face and said in a loud voice 'i said- that cat was run over by a car!' So i dont do that any more.
Yes my original post was speech related. Not sure abot tv and such as I really dont watch much. Hae appt wih reg ent in oct., hope she sends me to nurologist. Will let you know the outcome. Thanks for the input!
Oh Boy! So true, I spend most of my day battling against trying hear what my wife is saying whilst the TV is on or she is talking to me whilst facing away from me. It can and does lead to heated arguments! Hearing aids are useless except for one to one conversations without any other noise or sounds in the room at the time. I try to avoid all situations requiring concentrated hearing as I just can't keep up with it.. As for music which I love I have had to give it up. Just tinny noise now. I have got to the stage now of just accepting it. I certainly will not pay anymore for hearing aids as I don't think any of them will help my level of hearing loss. I know others will disagree with that.
With this particular distortion problem, hearing aids dont work. My nuerotologist told me that, but i begged to try one. It just made the distortion LOUDER, nothing was clearer. Once you get the distortion cleared up, if the hearing doesnt get better on its own, an aid may help.
Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone in this one! I've been lucky and it's not happening often but when it does it seems to be a certain tone. It drives my daughter crazy, cause its usually her lol. Thanks again, have an appt with ent , hopefully will refer to neurologist.
