    Hello All,

I am 34 years old male ... 75% hearing loss in my left ear. Vertigo started 2 Years ago started becoming regular over the last 7 months or so . With at least 2 attacks a week.

I was recently ( sept 30th) to be specific with Menieres and am in serious need of assistance. I have been reading up on the illness for some time now after self diagnosing myself, thanks too the good old internet. After reading online I have made several changes in my life. I went from drinking on average 6 cans of Pepsi a day or more to none. I went from smoking a pack of cigs in a day to none. IM taking water pills (Hydrochlorothiazide 50Mg) one time a day and potassium ( 3 times a day). I was prescribed this by my Otolaryngologist ( I hope that's how its spelled). Im also taking 240Mg of gingko baloba daily . and ginger root daily. I was told being in California I benefit from having the Top experts in the field here is Los Angeles.

Here is my problem ... The low sodium diet. Prior to learning I had to reduce my sodium my diet consist of double quarter pounder cheeseburgers from McDonalds. and other like junk foods. I have no idea what to eat now. I was told I have to keep under 2000mg of sodium a day and I have no idea what to eat... if other have any diet tips please help me...

Thank you all ... Hope your day is spin free,....

Welcome aboard. If you have not tried it yet, antivirals may be a useful tool. It has helped many of us find complete relief. It doesn't work for everyone, but definitely worth a shot if your doctor is flexible.

welcome, jvk. Of course fruits and vegetables are a nice low sodium alternative. Meats are good if you stay away from processed meats and if you don't season with salt. Believe it or not I like the no salt pistachio and cashew nuts better than the salted variety now. Just google low sodium diet.

Scott is right about seeking as many potential treatments as possible but changing your diet can be one of the, if not the only, benefit to having this dreaded disease. All the best.

Welcome to the group! There are so many ways to eat low sodium! For some its easier than for others. Things like mrs dash add flavor to foods without the sodium, they have quite a variety. I have found that I quite enjoy the lower sodium and find I have to add sodium to my diet cause I dont eat enough. This causes vertigo and/or just plain old dizziness, that will last for days. You can go to places like mcdonalds and order your burger, fries and such without salt. They are very accommodating. Chinese will be an issue if you are not making it yourself. Also, you may want to try joh of ohio regime. It works very well for me, of course not everything works for everyone. Some have great results from one thing and others it doesn't do squat. Important thing is to make sure your ent is on the same page as you are. I took my joh regime and research information to mine. She started with, "I will only do what is suggested by medical practice" at the end of session, ent asked how I wanted to handle it. Of course each ent is different and you may have to look a bit to find one that will truly listen to you.

Good luck, I hope some of this helps.
