    Hi everyone,
I have been taking Valacylovir from NorthStar manufacturer, which I get from Costco . I got a letter from my insurance saying that it wont be in network with them anymore. :( Is anyone taking this med from another manufacturer that is good? I got side effects from Mylan and had made the switch to NorthStar, now I dont know what I will do.

I would find out which brands are available to you and then search the forums for discussion on those brands.

    Briefly:

One member I know of here did very well with Cadista. I did not.

I did moderately well with Ranbaxy.

Now I'm trying the brand name Valtrex and doing even better. Others have had that experience as well.

As you probably know, many people have had a good experience with Northstar and many have had bad experiences with Mylan.

I'm one of the ones who is doing better on Valtrex. If you can get your insurance to cover it, it's worth trying.

For what it's worth, through Costco I believe the cash price for 30 pills (1/day) is about $60. The first year I was on it I paid the cash price because my insurance at the time mandated the mail order which wouldn't guarantee what manufacturer. So paying cash was worth it - especially as it is not TOO crazy high.

Try googling the brand name and coupon.

I've never done this one but I've gotten a serious discount on Rexulti for my daughter.

I guess I was sensitivte to the name brand . I only had a three day supply because insurance was pending, but it made me feel sick. It wasnt approved even though my doctor put medically necessary, so he said on the script.

I looked at the prices yesterday for it . It is about $104 I believe for 90, since I'm still doing 3 a day.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi guys,
I called many pharmacies looking for one that had the med made by NorthStar and none had it. However, one pharmacist told me that he can order the meds from NorthStar manufacturer as long as; the doctor put the request for that on the script. I will see what happens because my luck isnt that good. :-[I hope it goes through.
    Thank you all again.

You shouldn't have a problem having it done that way. That's what my Dr. Did.

AEC - maybe I misunderstood. Are you saying that the Costco pharmacy will no longer be covered by your insurance? or the Northstar won't be?

Given you are feeling sick on so many versions of Valacyclovir, maybe you should try acyclovir or famvir.

Wow. What type of insurance do you have? I find that surprising since typically Costco has lower prices than anyone.

The active ingredients of all brands of valacyclovir are exactly the same. So are we suggesting that the bulking agents make the difference between success and failure?

Does that not strike you as bizarre....?

May seem bizarre to you. But from personal experience as it pertains to valacylovir I have issues with 24 hrs with Mylan product, and no issues with Northstar. More than once. So while I agree that I personally always thought all generics are the same, I can only share my personal experience on this med. And there is a difference for me.
