The pharmacist that told me he could order the Valacyclovir from Northstar wasnt able to do it again. Then I called Duane Reade and the pharmacist told me just have the doctor request it on the script. I went to my doc today and his assistant send it over. I get a call 15 minutes after I left the doctors, she tells me she tried but couldnt order it from NorthStar. I'm so overwhelmed I called over 10 pharmacies only Costco has NorthStar. I guess after November 1 I will have to pay out of pocket because my insurance wont be in Network with Costco anymore :'(. Does anyone Costsco take online coupons for the generic? I'm on a very tight budget . I'm so debilitated from this horrible, disgusting disease. I have no quality of life. I just need to vent. No one understands how this effects people unless they have it. All I hear "You dont look sick". I walk like a drunk and people look at me like I'm crazy :'(. I pray things get better for me and anyone else suffering.
Thank you for your time and support .

Sorry to hear that, AEC. Would your doctor consider scripting Valtrex name brand as medically necessary?

    Thank you Scott tom.
He tried that already and my insurance denied it .I think because he put that its for mienere's and they don't see that as the medications doctors usually prescribe for it. When I was at the doctors office another doctor came in the room, when the assistant was putting in the subscription. She looks over and said "This must be experimental I never seen antivirals prescribed for Mienere's, dirutics and low salt works". I told her it doesnt work for many people that I speak too and it never helped me .They think they know it all. I let her know I'm debilitated from this and then she says oh . The nerve of her.

if i were in your shoes and my life was as debilitating (which my life was at one time) i would make an appointment with the closest teaching hospital near you and ask for a labyrinthectomy and take back my life immediately. Do not let menieres control your life.

----I know i am going to hear to a lo of push back with responses about what about my other ear, what if ect........ well i will post a very important paper (link) you can read about a doctor who has zero vestibular function in either ear and he tells of his experiences and after a time of adjustment and compensation he expresses just how little he is affected by his condition.

    good luck

AEC - not sure the discount but believe that Costco offers a pharmacy discount card if insurance is not available. (I remember because they gave it to me when I was filling my cat's meds there.) I don't know the details but it is worth the call to ask about it and if it will help with the Northstar. (Still boggles my mind that your insurance won't partner with Costco.)

That said though, I have said before and will say again....if my life was significantly impacted daily I would not hesitate to push for surgery to finish it once and for all. Similar to what Bulldogs said. I know others have a different opinion and think surgery is "drastic" but what is the value of LIVING life vs simply existing.

AEC, i just refilled my script today and it said the retail price is $226. This is from Walgreens.

I do not know if this is a reduced price that my insurance company negotiates or not. I only pay the $25 co-pay, so i don't know the inside mechanisms, but if you can negotiate that price, it might be worth trying.

I am sorry you are going through this.

Carry a cane or walking stick when you are wobbly and people will get that it is a med issue not alcohol.

    Hey Joe,

Thanks for the link to the article which I can totally relate to. As you know I totally lost my vestibular balance mechanism in both ears due to bilateral Meniere's. Fortunately, my brainstem took over for balance. It works very well for me unless I'm in total darkness.

    Best regards,

    Jim

My heart goes out to you with all these hassles and horrible statements from that doctor while you are feeling awful.

There are other generic brands besides Northstar that work for people. I would give one a try. Ranbaxy did a lot for me. Valtrex is doing even better, but the Ranbaxy was way better than nothing. Find out which generic brands are available to you, and then search these boards to see which are working best for people.
