So my Dr. has put me on a diuretic and told me to lower my salt intake to 2000g per day. Which is very hard for me to do . My diet consisted of Mcdonalds double quarter pounder w/ Cheese a couple times a day. So have been changing my diet. Ive been able to get down to eating 4-5 times a day to only 2. Now my problem im a small guy im only 5'6 and with that horrible diet I only weighted 155 lbs. Now since the diet ive dropped down to 135. So im wondering in I can drink protein shakes ( muscle Milk) Has anyone with Menieres taken protein shakes??? Does the chocolate flavor affect you? Please help .....

Your diet sounds horrendous. If Meniere’s don’t get you then either obesity, cholesterol or diabetes surely will!

If there is any silver lining to this condition it is that it should force you to focus on your wellbeing and modify your diet and exercise regimes.

BTW 2000g is a lot of salt, so I presume you mean 2g? But that is very little and probably not a realistic target. Or do you mean sodium? It is important to be clear.

Yea my diet was very bad before but shockingly I have zero health problems. .. well until this good ol menieres. So yeah no obese ... cholesterol levels have always been good. and Nope not diabetic either so ... yeah ... thanks for that OK so 2 grams of sodium. Thank you for correcting me on that. SO with that being said do you have any light on this topic

2g sodium is equivalent to 5g of salt which is doable and not that much below the RDA of 6g for a normal adult.

I cannot see why a protein shake should affect Meniere’s unless it contains a heavy slug of salt. If you have a MAV component then there may be other triggers, but only you can tell that by reading the label and trial and error.

Personally I prefer to get my protein through a balanced diet rather than from supplements.

I regularly have a protein shake after I go to the gym. Be careful though because many of them do contain high sodium. It's usually not an astronomical amount but higher than you would think.

Instead of relying on shakes, evaluate your lifestyle. Your health will thank you for it! Prep your food for the day so you're not relying on junk food and snacks.

Oddly into trying to research stuff.. A few places said to avoid protein powders as they contained L-arginine which might increase viral counts if your issue is HSV related.

Another thing I have a hard time dealign with is the artificial sweeteners in the protein powders. Usually they have sucralose or aspartame or both. Sucralose gives me panic attacks and aspartame gives me foggy head... Though... I have used protein meal replacement powders quite often in spite of my fear of things in them. I flat out won't drink or eat anything with aspartame in it anymore. It really causes me mental issues. Sucralose I do not care for but if I am just having it in a shake once a day I do OK. Eating it through out the day I do not do.

I never really cared about the L-arginine issue till recently. I still do not know if it is encouraging my current bad symptoms but I am trying to keep a high lysine low arginine ratio just to be safe.

A glass of chocolate milk has about 2 to 8mg of caffeine. I am guessing a shake has about the same. Which is not much.

I think everyone benefits from eating foods from nature rather than from being processed. For me this especially true for those of us with health issues.

The more we nourish our bodies naturally, the more chance we have of staying healthy.
