For those of you on anti-virals: when you've had an increase of symptoms and increased your dose, how long did it take you to recover?

The very brief of my background with anti-virals: they have made a huge difference for me. I even got some hearing back, but was never able to get below 2.5 grams/day on the generics, so I started trying Valtrex this summer. It went fabulously. I got down to 2 grams/day for a long time and was better than I was ever on generics.

Then in October I had an extremely stressful time (and that's in comparison to my normally pretty stressful life). My adrenaline and emotions were on high for weeks. I wasn't getting enough sleep. Looking back I should have increased my dose when that all started, but I didn't until my symptoms got worse. I went up to 3 grams/day on Nov. 9, so over a month ago. I have gotten a little better, but nowhere near where I was. In the past, when I first started the anti-virals and also when I switched to Valtrex, I had a big improvement in just a few days, so it seems very strange that it is taking this long.

Do these backtracks from stress take longer to recover from? Has anyone had a similar situation or have any ideas for me?

Sorry to hear that you're having this issue. I always bump up immediately with high stress situations, so i can't help you with that. I do know that when they switched me to Mylan and the symptoms returned, it took a week or two to get straightened out after the doctor gave me name brand Valtrex.

Try taking 3000 mg of lysine to go with it. Be sure to take that on an empty stomach over 3 doses per day.

Thanks, Scott. That's a good idea with the Lysine. I'm only taking 1000 mg/day now over two doses, so I could definitely increase. I need to make things harder for that dang virus.
