I was just wondering what your policy is regarding drinking? I first starting getting MD about 10 years ago, but they were infrequent spells and I lived a normal life in between. Then as things progressed as I'm sure most of you find, just generally looking after yourself helps a lot so the first to go were the "Gin Tonics", (after having just one the day before I was due to go for a holiday with the family and instead spent the day watching the room go round.) Then wine bit the dust which is a shame as I live in Spain and they do some nice ones here. But I'd still have a small can of beer or two maybe until last month where I thought I'd try giving that up too to see if it helps . . . and seem to be getting just as many dizzy spells as ever. So I was just wondering what all your policy is? Total abstinence? I'm dizzy enough already so why do I need alcohol for the room to go round? Or, what the hell, if you're going to be dizzy anyway, go on and treat yourself?
I have no issues with drinking, but i don't like to drink more than 1-2, so i have no idea what getting drunk would be like at this time.
I have a few beers on weekends. Not sure it has any impact one way or the other. My ENT warns against dark liquor. I did give up completely for 6 months this year and did not notice anything markedly different. I am interested in your comment about the disease and how the symptoms change over the years. I used to get violent vertigo, be out for a day and then go without any symptoms until the next violent vertigo attack, which could be a week or several months. Now I don't get the vertigo but just live with disequilibrium just about all the time. Is this the way most people's symptoms progress?
In the beginning I used to go through "bad patches" where I'd get attacks, but then things would clear up and I wouldn't get any for a few months and knew I wouldn't. Now they seem to come and go as they please which is a bit of a sod as, for instance at one time I just wouldn't drive if I was in a bad patch and now that doesn't work.
liquor (lickher)? I don't even know her. 8) enjoy life, if you want a cocktail or a beer enjoy it!!!! just don't drink and drive.
It is nteresting how some of you can drink and it doesn't affect you. Drinking surpresses the cerebellum which is in charge of balance. It takes information from the ears, eyes and limbs to determine whether the room is spinning. I am envious.
I find that a drink or three balances me out. When I'm a little dizzy at the end of the day, it seems to calm things down. Like righting the ship.
Alcohol triggers really aggressive vertigo attacks for me. I can have one beer, or one shot of hard alcohol and thats it. If I have anymore, its very likely that I will get a vertigo attack. However, I can drink wine with no problems, unless I had a vertigo attack earlier that day. I usually have a glass or two of wine with dinner and have no problems.
For me a drink offers stress relief. To hell with the Menieres. I usually limit it to one or two otherwise I awaken with a new problem.
I offer the Chief a Mai Tai every night before bed. I no longer drink but my determination to get the Chief drunk on the weekends remains as strong as ever. Its the only chance i got. Otherwise she has basically closed up shop.
I can drink a few glasses with no problem. I think the dizziness doesn't get any worst with or without drinking. Someone said that a few drinks balance them out. That's funny because I feel the same way, you are now tipsy and not dizzy LOL. I love wine but it seems that red wine gets the stuffiness/fullness to comeback. I find the same with beer and I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee IPA's :-( I'm drinking white wines lately. Trying to stay with the dryer ones that are not sweet.
