Hi All, I am new here. My husband was diagnosed with cocklear hydrops (tinnitus, fullness, sensitive to sounds, pressure) months ago, started acyclovir for 10 days and switched to Famvir two days ago. He had two good days in day 5 and day 7, but the rest days were bad/unchanged, does this sound right? Anybody got good results with Famvir?

Yes, if someone is going to respond to antivirals, then Famvir is a good choice. It's common to see not much change, or even worse symptoms during the first few weeks. Make sure he's taking the therapeutic maximum dose until symptoms subside. While most respond after the three weeks, Some folks have taken a few months at the max dose.

Thanks so much Scott for your input, which definitely encourages us. We were confused why he responded in the first week, but not the second week.

2 steps forward, 1 step back. That's pretty common in the beginning weeks.

Btw, many of us are finding that taking 3000 mg of lysine with the antivirals helps as well. Take 1000 mg 3 times per day on an empty stomach. Avoid foods high in arginine.

Yes, he is taking 3000 mg of lysine following JOH. Thanks Scott for the info of arginine in food, this is the first time we heard.

I saw many had success stories on valacyclovir, but didn't see many with Famvir. Could anybody share your experience with Famvir? Thank you very much.

Actually we got the generic Famvir.
Last week his tinnitus is up down a lot. Two weeks passed after started antiviral(10 days on acyclovir, one week on generic famvir). He continuously had very bad tinnitus and fullness for two days, then followed by two days of quiet but couple of hours of loud tinnitus). And today the loud tinnitus came again. He also gradually started JOH three weeks ago.

We haven't seen the continuous good results so far, how long will this fluctuation continue? So frustrated.

It's common to fluctuate and could take awhile. I'd just keep taking the max dosage until it subsides.

This is the updates for my husband.
He has been taking generic Famvir for 18 days, he was almost symptoms free for the past 4 days, hearing was pretty good. But the loud tinnitus came back this morning. He is also oh JOH's regimen, nothing changes.

Does anybody have experienced this? What's the next step he should expect?

    Thanks a lot.

So, from all the previous symptoms you listed (tinnitus, fullness, sensitive to sounds, pressure), tinnitus is the only thing left?

I would call that great news.

Tinnitus is the hardest one to get rid of. It could take a long while.

He is also having very bad fullness today, which affected his hearing. How can we know that the symptom free is his own cycle or the result of the medicines?

Unfortunately, you can't. Not this early, or even after a year. There's no way to be certain that any of us are not just in a natural remission at any given time. Having said that, I'd stick with the max dose for at least 3 months before giving up.

My husband is getting much better again now, this is a different pattern as before, so we think this is the effect of all the medicine and JOH's regime.

    Thanks all for your inputs!
