when I saw Dr. Bartles on Wed. he spent 50 minutes with me and I'm starting on Acyclovir 800mg three times a day Xanax 0.125 mg three times a day and Hycoscyamine as needed. I was so impressed. He treated me with respect and spent a lot of time telling me how I can lower my salt intake to 800mg a day. I didn't think that Drs. did pt. teaching. Libby the intern who performed the tests was very sweet, personable and thorough. I'm very hopeful That this disease will not control my life, like I feared earlier. I believe I have a mild case (so far anyway). Dr. said that the symptoms come in clusters. All the best to all of you. I was freaking out a month ago so just wanted to say I'm managing to accept that I still have many things in life to be thankful for including people here.
HI! That's a great start to have a doctor who is willing to work with you and you feel comfortable with. AV's have definitely moderated my symptoms not a full cure but I feel they are helping. I'm taking 1000mg 2x a day as maintenance and the vertigo has lessened its grip on me. Keep your head up and don't stop fighting you're going to good days and bad days. Just chalk the bad days up to what they are and keep moving forward a positive mental attitude will help see you through. Good Luck!
That's great to hear. I hope it works for you. If acyclovir doesn't help, you might consider trying valacyclovir or famvir. Don't be afraid to stay at the max dose for more than 3 weeks. Many folks here have found relief only after a month or so at the max dose. I wish you the best.
While your progress sounds very promising, have you considered going back to the max dose for a month or so more? That might really pound the virus into submission.
Thanks for all the support. I can't say enough about how kind it is that you all take the time to post how you're coping and offer hope to others. If Acyclovir doesn't help and I have to take Valacyclovir (Famvir) ; is that more expensive?
The generic should be about the same. Name brand Valtrex is very expensive. If you do VCV then avoid Mylan brand generic.
