My Ent said the itching is due to dry ears--not wax (I really don't have that problem). He advised the one drop of baby oil each night at bedtime for a week--then a drop once a week.

It has helped but due to my new hearing aids and the new 'insert' into the ear that has a soft point to it, the itching has been bad. Used the oil last night and a medicated drop this morning. No hearing aids for awhile. Letting the ears rest.

But--I have 30 days to try these--Widex-- aids. They are good as I can hear--but not clearly yet. My own voice is unnatural and getting the TV to sound anything close to normal is a chore. So--I do the closed caption mostly.

And--my husband's voice is just not clear. He has a deep voice---talks fast and not too clearly (at least not that I can tell) so we are 'dealing with it'! :)

Hoping an adjustment this week will improve things. And perhaps a different 'dome' too. We'll see. Anyone have suggestions on things that help them adjust to new aids?

These work 'simultaneously' meaning volume up and down is controlled together. Left ear is 'down in volume' and rt is 'up in volume'. You can't take one aid out and be able to do both.

I don't like that because sometimes you want to have only one in--like if you're lying down and lay on one side. Other times too. No way to lower sound if you have the left one out--or raise it if you have the right one out! So, we'll see. Any suggestions--thoughts are appreciated!

I find that hydrogen peroxide on a cotton bud works for itchy ears.

good morning yanksgirl. In my experience with my hearing aids, they definitely help with being able to hear, but havent done much for the distortions of sound (TV, voices, music, etc). My belief is that the distortion is part of the MM. I"m hopeful it will improve as I progress with the antivirals, but of course, there isnt a 100% promise that it will happen. On a positive note, the hyperacusis has improved a bit. Being able to adjust your aids helps, but it may not be the aid's fault if the adjustment doesnt completely handle your problem. As for the itching, I have it, but it isnt constant. I also use a q-tip to help calm it down. good luck.

Thanks--to both! I use baby oil (just a drop) at bedtime in each ear. My Ent said to do that. It really has helped but there are times it suddenly starts itching--and 'boy' it's like an itch anywhere--not good but really hard to reach :)

I have used a q-tip around the edges as I've read it can 'push the wax--if there is any' further back against the eardrum and get impacted. I have 'very little wax' so I don't think doing the rolling around the edges hurts and it really feels good--for a minute anyway ! :)
Forevergrateful--thanks for the info on your experience with the h.aids. It's so strange that one can 'cup their hands around the back of the aids and hear almost perfectly! I took mine out last night and was still watching the ballgame on TV and trying to hear my husband too. So, I cupped my hands around the back of both ears and could hear 'almost perfectly'! The TV--my husband and my own voice. You can't do that cupping from the front--obviously--all sound is blocked. But wouldn't you think a device or something inside these very expensive hearing aids could 'capture' whatever it is when one does this--and implement it in the aids?

I sat and talked and heard TV for another 1/2 hour before going to bed. But--you can't walk around with your hands cupped around your ears all the time--your arms would tire for one thing but you'd look 'goofy' for another.

Someone out there with a leaning toward something to 'invent'--please work on a hearing device--that's not like an antler--LOL_-and come up with a really good hearing device--!! It's so 'simple'--just something that cups around the ear snugly--like muffs only open . :)

A good audiologist should be able to adjust your HA where you have less of these problems. Do you get free adjustments during the trial? It can take many visits to get things tuned just right. If you don't like the dual sound control thing maybe you should go with another option. That's what the trial is for. Maybe you could trial something else? I use Starkey and they have great service. Sorry about the itching that must really suck. Could it possibly an allergy to something in the Ha?
