Hi all, My ENT suggested I go to one of the medical centers connected to Chapel Hill or Duke as he's not comfortable continuing to prescribe anti-virals. Anyone from that area have a recommendation? I'm eyeing a Dr. Cunningham with Duke Otolaryngology of Raleigh...
I've always been really healthy and my Gyn has handled all my medical needs. She won't prescribe them as "she doesn't want to step on ENTs toes".
Generally, physicians and dermatologists have ample experience with prescribing anti-herpetic drugs. A copy of Gacek paper abstract might help them understand where you are coming from, so they might accept prescription for you. http://www.amjoto.com/article/S0196-0709(14)00072-6/abstract
My family dr prescribed antivirals when she could see that the ent's had nothing more to offer me other than destructive procedures and just giving in to the awf ulness of the disease. At that pount, the ent's were glad to be rid of my hopeless case although of course they didnt use language like that and the family dr knowing my history had her own ideas of what might be involved. I think it works best to let the dr know you know it may or may not work for you but what the ent's have to offer is limited to destruct ive procedures that will rob you of your hearing and /or balance and worse. Let them know you have heard anecedotally of very good results from a number of people, that they are prescribed by a number of prominent ent's, that you happen tomhave the dosage info right there. The effects of the disease are so life spoiling, that you want to know you have left no stone unturned. Will they prescribe the antiv irals so you can try this and see if you are one of the luckynones it will help? Dont argue theory or try to tell them you think some guys on the i ternet are smarter than they are, lol. Just ask sincerely. A lot of times doctors are sympathetic, know the antivirals have little risk and are willing to try if they dont feel ipon the defensive.
