Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, but not new to Meniers. I have been dealing with the symptoms well going on 12 years and as I am sure with everyone, good days are great....bad days are awful. Been to many doctors and have done a ton of research on my own. Everyone wants to medicate. I am fearful of the side effects (long term) and would prefer a natural approach. I am taking B-12 and B-complex with Vitamin C and D. Has anyone had any experience with anything other than prescribed drugs that seemed to help on the bad days? Especially the brain fog and the head noise. Yesterday I got ringing in my right ear at the same time a low tone in my left. Its maddening at times.

Have you considered antivirals? There are a LOT of people finding relief from them and the side effects are negligible for most.

Inositol has been shown to help with anxiety and OCD (as well as drugs).

Melatonin helps with sleep if you use the right dose.

Vitamin C helps with colds and flu if you use the right dose.

I've taken Acyclovir (800mg three times a day) for about 2 months with no side effects. I will now reduce to twice a day and continue to have blood tests to watch for ill effects on kidney function. At first I hated being someone on daily medication but now it's a tradeoff because I feel better. I've read in here that people do get relief from nonprescription supplements. One regimen is John Of Ohio. I have found the people on this forum knowledgeable, helpful and caring.

    Hugerj,

I have had good response from the JOH regimen. It is all supplements and vitamins. No pharmaceuticals.

Scott, I take 500mg of L-lysine even tho. Dr. said theses supplements are a waste of $
Also, I noted yesterday having cut back the Acyclovir (800 mg) from 3 X a day to 2 x a day; I felt dizzy and slightly off balance. I didn't take any prns and it passed. These symptoms occurred immediately after seeing my life coach which I'm so thankful I did because I'm feeling a lot less depressed. Any way, it is stressful for me to "go for help". I never wanted to need it but now at least intellectually I believe it just like going for help if I break my arm. Did I tell you that I started on Trazadone 150 mg last week and don't have any side effects, yah. I'm hoping to stay out of depression.
Scott, Thanks for your interest. It's so thoughtful of you to continue posting even tho. you've been feeling well.
    I wish everyone the best.

Marie, how long have you been on the Antiviral? Personally, I plan on staying on the max dose (1gmx3 daily) for at least three months (just passed the two month mark), but will keep that dosage for six if I'm not feeling confident. I also am willing to stay on the L-Lysine (1gm x3 daily) indefinitely whether it's thought to be a waste of money by some. For me, I'll do whatever I can to stay in control (or at least try to control this beast). But this is me.

forevergrateful, Hi again. I was prescribed Acyclovir 800mg three times a day for two months then 800mg two times a day. Yesterday was my 2 months so I cut back. If I feel worse I'll see if I can get a different prescription, thanks.
