Good morning. Trust me when I say I'd rather have a few extra pounds on me than to suffer daily from my MM; but, has anyone else noticed a tendency to gain weight when taking antivirals and JOH? just wondered.

Thanks for replying June. I've been on the MM protocol for a little over two months. I've been on Weight Watchers for the last year, so I watch my weight/diet daily. Just been a steady increase, though not drastic. Since I've never taken this many supplements, I was just wondering. Like I said, I'll take fewer MM symptoms any day!! Just curious

I've been on JOH 5 months now. At first, I lost weight until I figured out I could still eat on a low sodium diet. Now I'm just a few pounds short of when I was diagnosed 8 months ago.

Tx Oneday....I'm scheduled for my annual physical in the next two weeks. The blood work should let me know if anything else is going on that could explain the continual gain.

I feel your pain about weight gain. :-X I've put on 30# since my last bad set of spells (December 2016). I've just recently started to take it back off. For me I think it was the reduction in activity. I've been doing Crossfit for four years and when I feel good, I feel great. Not being able to go workout has caused so many problems. Reduction in activity leads to weight gain. Adding food with no exercise adds to weight gain. Not being able to see my friends adds to weight gain. Depression from being isolated adds to weight gain. It just goes on and on. I've just started to pull myself out of the hole. Back down to 220#(ish) from almost 240. I'll get there. I hope you all the best.

First, I want to reiterate how thankful that I am to all of you who post here. Two months ago I was freaking out. When I went low sodium I felt sorry for myself and indulged myself in desserts -as much as I wanted until I once again recognized that I was hurting myself. I go thru periods where I'm active so this is an improvement from2 mos. ago when I was very inactive and depressed. I've been under the care of a specialist and on Acyclovir for about 2 mos. now. I'm happy to share with you that I felt good yesterday, got out in the yard and worked for a couple hrs. I hear good things about weight watchers. I've struggled a lot to have a common sense relationship with food and often forget make the effort to provide good, clean fuel for my body. Two mos. ago after seeing the otolarynologist.I started frequently making enough quinoa (or another grain ) for 5 days and putting olive oil, garlic, carrot, low sodium chicken stock, Vidalia onion, (and sometimes curry and a little coconut milk ) in a large heavy skillet; again enough for several days. I give myself credit when I eat something "healthy" because God knows I beat myself silly for binging on sweets. I come from a family where we say. " I can't loose weight despite eating only cabbage for a week", he he.
Good luck everyone and once again, thank you for all the info and support.

Nice to hear from others. Between the MAV diet, the low sodium diet, the high Lysine low arginine diet and WW diet, I have a hard time trying to figure out just what I can eat. :) I also know about lack of activity (since mid Jan), though the past week has been a decent week for me and I've gotten out to garden twice. As for Weight Watchers Marie, it has been the only real diet plan that worked for me. I lost nearly 20lbs, but have put 7 of those back on in the last two months (coincidentally when I started the antiviral/JOH program). And though I'm still tracking thru WW (I havent reached my goal yet), I'm hopeful it also will help me get all things "me" back on track. The AV and JOH seem to be helping, so I"m not about to stop them just because I'm back up a size. Good luck.

It is important to take the Lysine on an empty stomach. 20 minutes before you eat or two hours after you eat.

I've eliminated processed food from my diet with the exception of pizza. I eat a lot of oatmeal with spices, and or fruits and nuts. I like banana nut and apple, raison, cinnamon. One night I had a burger with Mrs. Dash, avocado spread on the bun, a slice of tomato and some fresh spinach and for dessert angel food cake and strawberries. Yes, I'm still eating sugar.
Forevergrateful, can I ask what's in your garden?

Marie, I only grow flowers. It's a fairly large garden, but not enough room for vegetables other than what can be grown in pots. As for your diet.....I thought nuts were a no/no for JOH and arginine content....also spinach and dried fruit (I think). Trust me, I'm no expert on JOH. Still trying to maneuver my way around all the restrictions.

    forevergrateful,
I'll bet the flowers are beautiful. I tried some sunflower seeds but they washed right out of their pots in a heavy rain, may try again. Thanks for the diet tip.I've had some spinach and nuts (3 walnuts) the past 2 days and have some mild symptoms. Yesterday I took a chance not medicating with prns and thankfully no spinning or nausea. Hope you have a good day.

To be candid, i have been a ww lifetime member since 1995, which is not to say thin all that time, lol. It is very common for me after following the program for a matter of months to inch up ever so slowly. It is usually a result of my loosening up the tracking, the measuring etc ever so slightly ;-) and when i restrict my diet another way, such as sodium or food elimination for an allergy etc, then darned if i dont get a little creative and learn to make low sodium muffins ... maybe not in your case but in mine, lol.

Just for diet disclosure, I went on the Whole30 diet back in February and the feeling was incredible and afterward my blood work was "perfect" to use my doctor's word. The diet removes all processed food and goes back to meat, vegetables, fruit, potatoes. As a bonus, I lost 15 unwanted pounds and ate as much as I wanted of the above mentioned foods.

Now a couple months later the weight is still off just because of the habits I picked up during those 30 days. I cannot more highly recommend giving it a shot.

Interesting Teesdale. I did Whole30 in January. It was one of my worst months ever--I had severe vertigo (the 6-8 hour vomiting, crawl to the bathroom type). In retrospect, I wonder if I had too much sodium while I was doing it. I was focused on the other stuff and didn't really take it into consideration. Then I'd be so exhausted from the attacks and then shopping and cooking. I did lose weight but it wasn't good because a lot of it was from vomiting so much. I've since gained it back and am looking at hormonal causes of my tiredness and weight gain.
