I got sick a few days ago with a throat/lung respiratory virus. The virus has now gone to my ears and stopped them up. Ok, I am waiting for possibly even more of my hearing to be lost since this is the way this all got started last November, 11, 2016. However, are you all ready for this? The roaring in my ears has lessened to some degree with this viral infection and I can hear just a little bit better. Still got the hearing distortions, headaches, and facial pain. I will let you know how this progresses. I am still on the steroids. What a weird illness this is....

I feel for you Jimmy; you've really had a rough time. I'm hoping this latest virus will be treated and then I hope you have a good stretch of time to feel better.

The problem is that steroids inhibit your immune system, so the virus is going to be much more difficult than usual to get rid of.

Scotttom, you knew what you were talking about. I cannot shake this respiratory virus and have had several vertigo incidences and headaches. I do not want to take more anti-biotics. I have been on four of them in the last six months and have read they do not help sick ears!

I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling with illness that effects this disease. I too had a nasty something last February that started as a cough but immediately went to the sinus and ear area. It must be weakened from steroid treatments over the last two years.

I rode it out with anitbiotics, which work or don't work, and time. REST REST REST.

Please let me know how you are and if you can wean off the steroids while you are sick. They don't help the healing!

One of the good things about the JOH routine is it includes a lot of immune support. Since I've increased my dose of Vitamin D, I don't get sick near as often and when I do for a shorter time. Also, at the first sign of a possible cold, I get going with all my immune support routines--zinc lozenges, elderberry, rest, extra vitamin c, and more. It is really extra no fun to get sick with ear issues.

Four days ago, the allergist put me on a sulfur based antibiotic for one month. I am still having blood and yellow from my sinuses...yuck! He said there was "major fluid in both ears" and I can hear it. When I walk or blow my nose or open my mouth, I hear the cracking and popping sounds in both ears, and a thud noise in my good ear. I had an aunt who found out I was taking this sulfur based antibiotic and she called and freaked me out, saying that this antibiotic was tied to damaging inner ears and had huge negative side effects. I called my ENT, and she said this was false. She said I could have more damage continuing with this sinus and now ear infection. He also gave me more steroid nasal spray to take....I am scared of what I am doing to my body with all of these steroids. Still getting these damn headaches and lack of balance virtually every day. Then of course there is the hearing distortions, pain from noise, etc. etc. etc.

Jimmy, Is treatment for sinus/ ear infection progressing?
I'm actually having less Meniere's symptoms but wicked depression. I've read your posts and understand feeling like staying in bed. I've been spending way too much time on the couch watching TV or playing computer games. I continue to apply for jobs that I think I'd l ike. I try to think of loosing my last job as a blessing as I was getting upset a lot. Maybe why my MM came back with a vengence in Feb. I started on Trazadone about a month ago. My memory is poor. I don't think it's really helping but I missed 2 weeks with my life coach when I went to visit family. :-X

Marie, this sulfur drug has cleared most of my sinuses and throat up, but the allergist put me on it a month with my ENT's Ok. It does not do my stomach any good and gives me heart burn and pretty persistent diarrhea. My hearing has decreased markedly over the past two weeks and it scares me. I hope it comes back. The only thing I find joy in are my plants here in Atlanta. I planted some beautiful baskets despite getting dizzy during the process. Marie I think the Zoloft I use has helped me deal with all of this. Also, the Xanax seems to help me during the bad times. I went to a psychiatric drug counselor to help me. I don't understand why I feel so bad every morning I get up....dizzy and just out of it. I need to talk to my ENT about it. I do plan to go back to walking when I feel secure I won't drop in the road and get smashed. My counselor gave me Trazadone as a sleep aid, but it takes to long to activate for me. One thing I have learned and you know, dealing with this illness is not only a physical fight but also a mental one. It is difficult and taxing, and we have to do our best to keep "up." I am still down on many occasions, but try to shift out it by saying, "what the hell is being down going to help you. Now get your butt up and walk or do something!" I try and force myself to talk to friends and do things---very hard. I keep trying to listen to music and every-time I do, it hurts...this makes me so crazy as I use to sing in a group for years. I will continue to try and listen and find some bits of a line that doesn't hurt. We are in a fight girl friend, and I am there to support you! Also keep in mind that by suffering with this debilitating illness you have a perspective on life that few others do despite what job you have. Keep in mind you are much more important than any job. You can write and talk to people about your experiences and unique perspectives and how you try and manage things that are difficult. You and I have a life challenge we can express to other people so that they understand this very misunderstood disease. Let's get going! Sorry for all of this rambling...I hope it helps!

    Jimmy,
    Hope you're feeling better.
Thanks for your response. I've been more active and my mood's been better. It helps to be able to say how I really feel to people who understand that some days are better than others.
I planted an alamanda the other day :).
