For me Scott, my life DOES depend upon it. At least what I consider to be quality of life. I totally agree with you about committing to this protocol. I dont even like if I miss the HOUR that I"m due a dose, I cant imagine missing a whole day or more. I am finding everyday shows some improvement, even if the improvements are small steps. Commitment and belief in this protocol is what it takes for me....and I'm reaping the benefits little my little. Just sayin.
Very interesting read. I hadn't heard of MM possibly being caused by HSV, but it makes total sense. I had a mean case of ophthalmic zoster AKA shingles of the face and eye back in 2014. I was placed on a 3 gram per 12 hours regiment of valacyclovir for a couple weeks and it knocked it right out within a week or so. OZ is extremely painful and I would wince as it felt like a screwdriver was being stabbed into the top of my skull every 15 seconds or so. But back to the point, the nature of HSV attacking the nerves and then the following inflammatory response by the body really makes a lot of sense as it pertains to MM. I will have to convince one of my docs to write a me script! THANKS, Matt
Hi Matt Many people take Valtrex daily for life due to shingles, so you may be able to go that route if your doctor (or insurance company) balks at the off label usage for MM. Avoid generic brand Mylan. Endless complaints about that generic not working.
Hi Scott Tom, This is my first post so not sure I'm doing this correct? Anyway, when you say you take 3000mg a day, how exactly are you taking that? Is it 500mgs 6x a day or is it 1000x 3x day? Thank you, Paul
While taking the max dose, you want to take 1000 mg morning, noon and before bed. Also, take 1000 mg of lysine 3x a day, but on an EMPTY stomach. When you cut back to 2x a day, just mornings and evenings. The final maintenance dose is whenever you want, but i take it each morning.
One of the big problems with a double blind clinical trial (apart from the cost and benefit to the wider community and/or the drugs company’s shareholders) is that spontaneous remission can happen spontaneously, thereby ruining the science behind cause and effect! I personally would like to see them try anyway, but have been shot down before for saying so, by the forum’s resident Valtrex expert. Apparently you are a troll if you have any doubts that Valtrex is the complete answer to Meniere’s so be careful what you post Beanz.... <winking emoticon>
Yellow, you are intellectually dishonest and you only post these things to troll people. NO ONE on this forum has ever said that antivirals are the complete answer to MM. Not a single person has ever said that, and you know it. Yet, you could continue to make up that lie over and over again. You ARE a troll. You've had posts deleted by the admin for trolling. So stop with the fake persecution story.
Admin Post Yellow and Scott -- please avoid replying to each other's posts for the sake of peace. Friendly warning before ban regardless of who started etc. Thanks, Ray
Is it ok to take valacyclovir with Lysine, at the sometime? Should you take them together? Also you mentioned to take Lysine on an empty stomach, is it ok to take valacyclovir on an empty stomach also? Sorry to be so high high maintenance...it is just when I'm trying something that has worked for other people, I want to match what they did exactly. Thank you!
Don't worry about asking questions. That's why we're here! Many people take them together. My doctor scripts them together. It's ok to take Valtrex on an empty stomach, but it doesn't add any benefit. Taking lysine on an empty stomach is mandatory, as it doesn't do much otherwise. JOH has a good explanation for this.
Lysine, to disable the resident, active herpes virus in the inner ear or associated nerves, must be consumed without food, meaning at least 20 minutes before eating, or 2 hours after eating. This is because if taken with food, the body absorbs and uses the lysine right along with other dietary amino acids. Those get turned into body proteins, and as such, they can't affect herpes viruses. If taken solely (no other amino acids or proteins), elevated levels of lysine make it into the blood stream and flow through inner ear capillaries, where they bind to resident herpes viruses. When this happens. the lysine is a molecular wrench, gumming up viral replication and activity. Be advised, however, this can take weeks or months to come to full suppression of viral activity. --John of Ohio
I'm thinking of trying the Valtrex. My vertigo has gotten back under control but I'm worried that it will go bilateral and I'll lose the hearing in my other ear. Does anyone know of any doctors in the Chicago or Milwaukee areas that are likely to prescribe it.
Sorry, i do not. But you don't need a specialist. Any doctor or nurse practitioner can script this. Be sure to take the Gacek paper with you.
hi Scott Tom, have you ever experience like minor vertigo/ nystagmus while taking av? i have taken valtrex since January this year and now on my maintenance dose. but sometimes, i feel like almost got vertigo since i got a bit dizzy and minor nystagmus. thanks
Yes, that was quite common for me in the early going. I kept thinking that the vertigo was about to hit, but it never did. Are you also taking lysine? Take 1000 mg 3x per day on an empty stomach. This will help fight the virus.
yes, i also take lysine but only twice a day since i got stomach upset if i take 3 times a day. good to hear that it's common to experience it. thanks
This week i switched from Valtrex to Famvir. Partly due to the cost and partly because i was interested to see if i would have any improvement. I don't really need any improvement, as i'm pretty normal, but then again, i thought a year ago and have improved since. Everything becomes the new normal, right? I am now taking 500 mg of Famvir per day. I'll update in a few weeks to report how the transition was. So far, so good.
