I've now been taking anti-virals (generic/Northstar) for about six weeks now. I've been feeling really good and my "good days" have gotten better. But yesterday I had a bad day. Screeching in my MM ear and the general feeling of malaise and depression, off balance, basically sh!tty. Last night, while sleeping, I had a very bad case of the night sweats. Totally soaked through my sheets, and woke up dripping in sweat. For those of you having had a die off, does this sound familiar. If not, has anyone else also had an experience like this? Thanks for any info.
Well, Coach, I have not had a die off but have a similar story to yours. I am also on generic valacyclovir and have been since November. I was doing well on the Northstar brand but my replacements have not seemed as effective. I am recently back on Northstar so I am hopeful for more good days. Last week I had 5 symptom free days but the last 3 days not so good. Not terrible either. Anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes of disequilibrium with a vertical rotation of the environment. Slight nausea. It still sucks since it hit me in the car and I had to pull over and ended up being late. But not as bad as it has been in the past. I'm hoping for the die off but if I'm being honest I am not sure it will ever come.
Nearly every treatment seems to involve both forward and backwards steps. The important thing is that the overall trend is in the right direction. Perhaps a tipping point was breached yesterday by a combination of lifestyle and/or dietary triggers? 6 weeks of uninterrupted progress is very good news. Keep taking the tablets....
This is a common story, and not indicative of the antiviral conking out. You could have had a flareup of the virus due to high arginine food, stress, etc. Stick with it and see what happens.
47 year old male. I've been seeing a "hormone doctor" for about two years. Low testosterone. Numbers have been pretty good. SCOTTTOM- yes loads of stress recently, and I have no intention of stopping the anti-virals. I've also been taking l-Lysine and boosting up on other supplements, just not the full JOH regimen.
@Hero, I tolerate the altitude okay, we flew in August, November, and March just fine. Last November, we went back to the mountain cabin where it all started a year ago, without incident. @Coach Betz, oh gosh, the screechy ear! I had the malaise and depression, brain fog, and shitty feeling for most of last week and this. GOOD NEWS!! My appointment with Dr. Derebery at House Ear Clinic yesterday was everything I hoped for and more. Their team is awesome, so patient, and thorough. She confirmed I have MM and that I am in an acute-type phase now. She said we need to get it into a more manageable phase. So, I have a treatment plan (Plan A) that makes sense and I am hopeful for the first time in a while. I have "rescue meds" that I hope work even a little for the vertigo. She said I was fine for travel. As noted to Hero above, I was concerned about flying and altitudes, but I flew just fine the rest of last year and have gone up in the mountains (including over the grapevine to LA yesterday) since my first attack a year ago, just fine. I was just thinking this morning on how fortunate I was to do the research and get real help. Yesterday as my husband and I were sitting in the treatment room, I said to him that I was relieved to be in competent hands, but that I was aware that there are so many people out there who accept sub-par medical treatment because they don't feel they have options. I would have done anything to be able to drive the nearly 4 hours one way to see Dr. Derebery, and we are doing it again in 2 months for a follow-up and hearing test. Today is the beginning of day four without a vertigo attack. It's been a while since I went more than 2-3 days without one so I am hopeful. Hope you guys are doing well out there today.
So sorry, I have no idea how I posted my "reply" above to the wrong thread!! I will see about getting it deleted.
