50 years ago today , 1967, the first McDonalds opened in Canada. They were selling hamburgers today for 67 cents all across Canada.

My husband and I were in University a few years after that when a McDonalds hamburger cost 25 cents and fries were 26 cents. I'm sheepish about admitting how many we put away while we were in Uni.

    Nostalgia!

    Neat.

It's hard to picture a McDonald's in Canada. I just figure you guys are above it. Or would outlaw it as being too American.

But then there's this word "hoser". I'm not sure if it's an insult or it just means a "guy". Like a version of the English "bloke".

    marta,

Fries cost $1.39 for a small, $1.69 for a large. I had to google it because I haven't been in a McDonalds since for ever. Panta Rhei indeed!

    pupper,

There are McDonalds all over the world. Canadians eat crap, too, unfortunately.

Hoser is a derogatory term. It refers to and uncouth, uncultivated person. It derives from the pre Zamboni days when the hockey ice was flooded with guys using hoses. The guys were usually ne'er do wells who would hose the ice for beer money.

    The more you know...

My daughter just returned from Greece. There was a McDonald's near her hotel. She had a McGyro!

Cheryl I hope your daughter enjoyed Greece.
Melcthe prices have gone up indeed. However it's still relatively cheap to dine there.

We do not eat in Mc Donald's and my personal child got food poisoning after eating in such a place so now she only gets herself ice cream .And Mc Donald's are everywhere !

    "pre Zamboni"

    "flooded with guys using hoses"

    "I'm sheepish"

    "McGyro"

    "in University"

    "my personal child"

I'm going to need a few days to process these phrases. Take care.

I got the results from my dog's second growth removal. This one was benign. Yay. It will be two weeks on Tuesday when she had the surgery. She is good as new.

What a relief. She has come so far since we rescued her. She is such a delightful clown. Here's hoping to many more years with her.

That's such good news, Melc. Another medical issue for her with a happy ending.

    Thanks, Cheryl,

It's been a tough month for her. It will be good to get back into our routine. She's been missing her walks.

I feel autumn in the air . Not ready for it yet. Although it has been pretty warm today ( 22 C/ 71 F )you could tell it was not like in the summer. The night was pretty cold as it was only 7 degrees Celcius( 44 F) Some leaves have turned yellow already. Time to look for warmer clothes

Hi, Marta! I feel autumn here, too. We've had falling leaves for awhile now, due to lack of rain. It's still pretty warm here during the day, but cools way down at night. I can handle the cooler temps, but I don't like that it's getting dark way earlier. It makes the evenings seem so long.

Are you back from your holiday yet? I know awhile back you said two more weeks, but I can't remember when that was. Hope you got re-energized so you can go back to all your tiny students.

Cheryl we are flying on Tuesday next week. I do feel very refreshed and re-energised but I am not ready to face my new tiny friends yet.
You are right the evenings are longer already. What worries me is the fact that it's still dark at 5 am and it's the time I will be getting up and getting ready for work very very soon.
Knowing me I will be counting down for Christmas soon. I bet Harrods is going to start selling X-mas related goods soon ( If They have not done it already)

Mother Nature is wreaking havoc all over the place. It's heart breaking to see the videos from India and Texas.

I did a double take when you mentioned Xmas in Harrods, Marta.

It's bad enough we have Halloween crap in our stores in August, but Xmas? Blech!

Marta, I hope you're back in your flat now, safe and sound. I'm sure you're sorry to see your break coming to an end. Getting up to ready yourself for work at 5 a.m. is way too early. I remember those days, though.
I got up at 5, left for work at 6 and had to be at my desk ready to take my first call at 7 sharp! I worked 10 hour days with an hour for lunch, so I didn't get back home until 7 p.m. I was always tired!

Melc, did you happen to see the photo of all the elderly Houston ladies at the nursing home, sitting in their wheelchairs and recliners with water up to their armpits? It really was a heartbreaking sight to see.

They've had the Christmas stuff out at Hobby Lobby for awhile now. I understand they have to have the craft stuff out early so people can get things made for Christmas, but decorations and wrapping paper? Insane!

Cheryl I cannot agree with you more. It is way too early. It's great business for retailers and there must be people buying Xmas stuff in Summer. Whatever pleases them. It makes no harm.
    Have a good day everyone

Mother Nature has been very cruel here in Europe as well. Poor all the people who experienced it wherever they live.

The falling leaves drift by my window
The falling leaves of red and gold
I see your lips the summer kisses
The sunburned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all
    My darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

    --Ray Conniff

My parents always played this song when I was a little kid. I'm so glad they were into music. Love this song. Andy Williams sings it wonderfully too. Well, he's smoother than buttered silk isn't he.

Yes, Cheryl. I did see that picture . I was so impressed with the calm strength those seniors showed. Not a stiletto heel in sight. The devastation is hard to wrap my brain around. I saw on the news that there is a raging wildfire in Manitoba today. Marta is right; there is devastation and suffering everywhere.

It's going to be 32 C here today. It's dry and everything is turning brown. The leaves are turning already. I love fall, but not what comes after so it's always bittersweet.

I'm holing up in my sewing room in the basement after I get my tomatoes done. I'm not roasting them this time, I'll do them on the stove top. Too hot for having the oven on.

We are off to Banff next week for a couple of days in the Rockies so I have to get the garden stuff caught up.

Kids are back to school tomorrow. The summer flew by!
