Hi All, lately I have been experiencing dizziness and like minor vertigo. i.e not full blown vertigo where i usually ended up throwing up. for this past month, i often had minor vertigo where i can feel that the room was spinning but last for less than a minute. been taking av and various vitamin based on JOH. could this be related to low blood pressure? thanks
If you're on the maintenance AV dose, then I'd bump it back up to max for a week to see if that helps. Any chance that you're taking benzos or quit recently? That can cause similar symptoms.
Is you blood pressure low? Are you eating low salt and taking a diuretic? If so, have you had your electrolytes checked? I think there are a myriad of things that can cause such a feeling. It may be a good idea to see your family doctor to get an overall checkup. Brief episodes of vertigo can also be bppv or cervical vertigo or it could be some med or otc thing you are taking. Take time to think this through.
I have low blood pressure and it's a very different feeling. The world goes black and you feel like sitting down. The dizziness is not the same as the spinning from MM. But i guess everyone might be different.
I agree with that description of too low bp but what words people use can make it hard to know exactly what is being described. I dont know what heart issues might seem like because i have not had that. It does sound to me more like bppv or cervical vertigo, from what i have read, i dont have either.
For years I have had severe vertigo and just over the past few years it has become minor dizziness. It sucks because it may not last that long but the after effects of nausea and brain fog go on for the rest of the day. My otolaryngologist says it's the disease dying off. I'm skeptical but it has been 30+ days since I've been dizzy so I'm hopeful. Of course I'm continuing my A/Vs and JOH vitamins probably for ever.
@Scott Tom - will try to max the av dose for a week. @June - my blood pressure lately around 110/60. after having lunch / dinner usually my dizziness gets much better. I'm planning to eat some snacks before each meal to see if it's help. @teesdale - hopefully you feel much better soon.
Your BP is somewhat low and could drop, causing dizziness. I take salt when I feel it coming on. Try talking to your doctor about ways to get it up.
For 3 years all my vertigo attacks lasted up under 1 minute, albeit I was bed riffed for 2 hours afterwards. That minute was violent, 100 miles per hour spinning. I know get longer lasting vertigo, up to 90 minutes, but it is much slower and if I stare to my right it will stop, then started again when I look straight or to my left. To be honest, the slow moving, longer lasting vertigo is easier to do with hsn the short, explosive spinning.
This is interesting. I had my last major vertigo attack over a year ago. In the Fall though, I started experiencing mini-vertigo attacks every so often that lasted less then a minute. These subsided in February and since then I've had only a couple of dizzy spells. When I spoke to my doctor about this, she also said it could be my Meniere's dying off. I have read different explanations on this forum about what "dying off" means and it usually included the worst case scenarios (e.g. complete hearing loss). Right now I still have tinnitus in varying degrees in my bad ear as well as distortion (68% comprehension according to the audiologist although I think it's a little worse than that). And although I still have hearing loss, it no longer fluctuates. There were some days where if I gently brushed my hand against my ear, I couldn't hear a thing. That hasn't happened in a while. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Zotgen, are you currently on antivirals? In addition to no more dizzy, my hearing has improved significantly and I have no explanation for that other than the A/Vs.
Teesdale, no I am currently not on antivirals but I am on a modified JOH regimen. I still take a diuretic and I'm on what I'll call a reduced sodium diet. I also take monolaurin but cut back on it significantly since my LDL cholesterol level got way too high (170). Both monolaurin and Lysine can affect cholesterol in some people especially if it is already high. I've always had higher than normal levels which in my case is hereditary. I've also found over the years that my body is sensitive to even small changes in my diet. My most recent blood test a couple of weeks ago showed my LDL down to 139 which I attribute to some diet changes as well the reduction of monolaurin. If my symptoms do get worse I'll probably increase the monolaurin or talk to my doctor about antivirals. The last time I saw her she was reluctant to prescribe them since my symptoms have pretty much stabilized and she felt it would be difficult to assess if they were actually doing anything.
"Both monolaurin and Lysine can affect cholesterol in some people especially if it is already high" is lysine alone can increase your LDL? my last checkup showed LDL of 140, so if i continue taking 3000mg of lysine, it could increase again? thanks
ckdk, If you do a search you'll find conflicting arguments about how Lysine affects cholesterol. Some data suggests it may increase it, especially if taken in mega doses. Other data suggests it can actually lower cholesterol, especially if taken in conjunction with vitamin C. There seems to be more opinion for the latter than the former. In a nutshell, upping your lysine intake won't necessarily increase your LDL but you should probably monitor it if it is a concern. As I'm sure you are aware, there other factors that affect cholesterol, especially diet and exercise. Try making some changes and see what happens. You'll obviously need another blood test and it can take up to 3 months to see a noticeable improvement in cholesterol levels once you start making changes. In addition to diet and exercise, there are also certain supplements which are said to help lower it such as flaxseed oil. As always, consult with your physician on the best course of action to take.
