Can Allergy Shots Make You Feel Ill?

His post said "The way I think of it, allergy issues aren't a cause of symptoms. If that were true lots of people would have mm"

He disagreed with allergies causing MM symptoms, I clarified that allergies do cause symptoms, they are definite triggers (causes) of MM symptoms, then he combined the 2 to mean the same, allergies cause MM, which I never said. But then his analogy agreed with my post. ???

:) I think the consensus of the med community as well as folks here, is that allergies exacerbate MM symptoms. Therefore, they can trigger bad spells.

But as Rusty implies, we have to hit the jackpot of several issues before we 'get' MM.

its just semantics, trigger and cause mean the same thing.

The thing to know is that treating allergies can sometimes take enough pressure off the system to alleviate MM symptoms greatly.

This allergy season has been so bad it caused my symptoms to act up, not vertigo or dizziness, thank goodness, but fullness, pressure, deafness and tinnitus,
so had to increase by one 400 mg pill of acyclovir to get them back under control again.

Aww deadeye so sorry the shots are making you feel so bad, but its clear allergies are part of your MM issues. I hope the shots start giving you relief from MM symptoms soon. Are you still taking the antivirals? If not and your allowed to while getting the allergy shots it may help to go back on them.

Talk to your allergist before you do that. If you do that - they may not be able to give you your next round of shots as scheduled. My dr does not want me taking any steroids or antihistamines for everal days before a shot because they want to know if it is giving me a reaction. Not knowing about my reaction might make them give me too much too soon. I think you should call the allergist, tell them exactly how it is making you feel and ask for advice. They may not want to keep up at this pace knowing how you are reacting.

Sorry you are feeling so poorly, Deadeye. As the original poster of this thread, I wanted to report that after my 4th or 5th shot, I no longer felt ill after each shot as I did in the beginning. Also, interestingly, I haven't had any more big welts develop at the injection sites as I did previously. (Not to say that I won't experience welts in the future as the serum becomes more concentrated with antigen, of course.)

My son takes allergy shots from an allergy/asthma specialist. That doctor does things a little different than mine (an ENT). The allergy/asthma doctor actually requires that his patients take an antihistamine prior to every shot. If the patient forgets to take it at home, the office staff will watch the patient take a pill in their office. Perhaps you should speak with your doctor about using an antihistamine on shot days?

Agreed. I've never had problems with my allergy shots. I'm on maintenance now, only 1 shot a month!!! :)

I am sorry to hear this. It must be frustrating and discouraging.

I want to offer a ray of hope. My right ear (hearing and balance both) had been gone - nerve severed for 10 years when I developed hydrops in the good ear. I did imagine all the worst. But I have been lucky enough to get treatment that has restored my hearing and kept the balance type problem at bay (although my dr tells me undoubtably my balance is not perfect in that ear).

"Bilateral" is not the end of the road. Take a moment to absorb and digest but then be open to what may be good enough to give you a normal life.

deadeye I am sorry to hear of this. You have suffered so much. But I agree with June. Hopefully you will find something that gives you relief and soon.

Just to follow up on this- I am completing my allergy drops treatment, about 4 years worth. When I started I was on Nasonex and Claritin, and I sneezed when a cat came near. Now we have more cats, I don't sneeze at them, and I only take the Nasonex during peak periods of pollen. So, my allergies are better. The MM is too, but as we say, one person's experience doesn't prove anything.
