Has anyone had any luck getting Meinere's to go away by taking just Lysine without antiviral or any of the other pills in the JOH regime?

There is a JOH lite version that has worked for many people, but JOH can chime in with more details.

I am down to 500 mg of Valtrex per day after upping to 3000 mg of lysine. I plan to step off the Valtrex completely in a few months. I'll update as i do this.

In theory, lysine, alone, should bring the same relief as do prescription antiherpetics. Both lysine and the prescription drugs disrupt and suppress herpes virus reproduction and metabolic activity. But antiherpetics clearly, in most cases, work faster than lysine. Lysine can take longer to yield results. And, crucially, lysine must be taken in sufficient doses (up to 4000 g/day) in divided doses (3x/day), not connected to meals (minimum 20 minutes before a meal, or at least 2 hrs after). If any of these provisions are not met, there will be insufficient lysine to affect herpes replication or activity.

In my Meniere's regimen write-up (http://www.zoominternet.net/~kcshop/JOH.pdf) I encourage regimen users to email me on their experiences (now with a new email, [email protected]). Presently, I have 278 users accounts, good and bad (245 positive, 33 negative). I haven't had a single response from anyone using only lysine, alone, to suppress their Meniere's symptoms. Therefore, I can't offer any useful perspectives on this, at least in reference to those who have tried just lysine.

But the symptoms of Meniere's are not caused directly and solely by the herpes viruses at the core of the disease. They cause disease sequellae, downstream outcomes, that are the real problems, including particularly the hydrops, the fluid accumulation that, itself, suppresses proper inner ear balance function.

Inflammation of inner ear tissues and nerves, likewise, disrupt proper balance functions. The inflammation of the disease restricts normal blood flow through inner ear tissues, allowing inflammation and fluid build up. The lysine does not directly suppress any of this. It just suppresses viral activity. In time, that might result in inner ear healing and normalized function (but cannot restore lost hair cells; permanent hearing loss remains, no matter what).

The non-lysine elements of my treatment regimen enhance circulation and help suppress inflammation. All of these, together, have show for a majority of regimen users (presently, 88% who have responded with postings or emails) good success.

Readers are welcome to try whatever approach to their Meniere's they intelligently decide. Personally, I'd recommend a broad-spectrum approach, at best, my regimen in its entirety, along with prescription antiherpetics. All of this, together, I believe will yield the best chances for normalized inner ear functions.

John, as always an excellent response. With improved blood flow being one of the keys I would add that the exercises put forth by Hiro on this site should be added. I am currently on full JOH, A/Vs, and regular exercises of the ear and jaw areas and have been symptom free since early July.

Life is suddenly so much more enjoyable.

I have found that lysine has given me some improvement, even though i'm lowering the Valtrex. I no longer have mornings of fullness when the weather is nasty. My ears have been totally clear for a couple of months now. I just realized it this morning.
