Bone Anchored Hearing Implants

  1. Does anybody else have a BAHA, and what have been your experiences with it? I had my implant surgery at the same time as my surgical labyrinthectomy. I love my BAHA, but I've had some skin issues with the area surrounding the abutment.

Sometimes the area gets a little sensitive but nothing ongoing. I always try to keep the area free of build up. Overall, not a problem

  3. Does this mean I should think about washing my hair? I KNEW I wasn't doing something right! Seriously though, no matter what I do the skin around mine stays irritated. I have to use a steroid cream around the area everyday or it's just painful. Good to see someone new around!

Sounds like it could be an allergic reaction. Do you know what the BAHA is made of? If it is metal, maybe it has nickel. Some people are allergic to nickel. That would be a bummer if you are allergic to it, but still good to know.

  5. It's titanium. Supposedly, you're not supposed to get allergic reactions from it, but it certainly does feel that way sometimes. My doctor has talked about performing some minor outpatient surgery to cut more skin away from the surrounding area...
