Hi all, Generally I am very strict about my caffeine intake. I allow myself 2 cups at breakfast, and then I only have decaf drinks the rest of the day. The last couple of days, however, my asthma (adult onset...didn't even know that was a thing)has been bad, so I decided to drink a couple of cups in the afternoon. Soooo, I'm thinking never again. My ear really started buzzing...both days. The first day I thought it was a coincidence, now not so much. Is caffeine a big trigger for anyone? How bad do YOUR symptoms get if it is a trigger for you? Thanks!
Caffeine seems to be a non-player in my symptoms. Sodium was huge for me. Since I started JOH, I don't worry about diet so much as the dizzy/vertigo/drops went away. It will be a year in December since my last dizzy spell took me out.
Thanks for responding. I don't remember what that JOH acronym stands for? Based on what everyone has said on here about antivirals, I'm planning to ask my GP about them(seeing them soon for asthma anyway). I don't know if it's too late to derive any benefit or not, as I've already had a surgical labyrinthectomy, but all it did was stop the drop attacks and severe vertigo. I'm grateful, but I wouldn't mind relief from the other symptoms...

Caffeine is a huge trigger for me. Salt, no problem. Caffeine to this day is a problem. I went to 0 caffeine gradually subbing more and more decaf in the grounds. My husband and i have different coffee pots. Then i started taking norvasc for bp and now i am not as sensitive to caffeine. Go figure. But i can still overdo it. Two cups of reg coffee in the morning would still be too much. I was essentially 'cured' by antivirals and allergy treatment but there must be (Actually i know there is) residual damage to parts of the ear because caffeine will being on some symptoms.
Caffeine can also have indirect trigger effects. Many people find that it increases their anxiety levels, which as we know, interacts strongly with MM.
Nope, i don't either. I don't drink anything other than water, whiskey or beer. No caffeine drinks at all.
I'm not a coffee drinker. I can't even stand the smell of it. I limit myself to one cup of tea to start my day.
Well, personally I prefer Kopi Luwak, but a morning IV works in a pinch. Oh, don't forget about my English breakfast, Irish breakfast, and gunpowder green tea. It's not always coffee. Spice is the variety of life.
Caffeine make my tinnitus so much worse, and it seems the acidity was a problem and contributed to nausea. Even decaf was irritating. So, I switched to herbal tea, my current favorite is black cherry. Pero, is also a great coffee substitute (made of barley, chicory and rye) for something rich and warming.
Cricket, you're right. Herbal tea is delicious! I don't discriminate. I'm an equal opportunity hot beverage drinker. There is probably a word for people such as myself, (no guys, I mean the nice ones)who even prefer the old fashioned methods for brewing said hot beverages. My cabinet is full of various coffees(regular and decaf) as well as loose leaf tea from all over.
