Melc I can’t believe winter has already arrived at your place! Do you have freezing temperatures as well? Perhaps there is still a chance for the snow to melt down so that you can enjoy the autumn . ( or fall if you prefer ) waving at you
Awaiting your arrival, Marta. It's just as warm today as it was yesterday. No coats or boots needed here.
Hi Marta! I'm just a nutter It's warm here, but supposedly it's going to be in the 70sday/50s at night in the next week. I'll believe it when I see it. I'd love some snow...just not that much at the moment. Hope you have some quilting/reading to do, Mel.
Bite your tongue, Marta. Winter is not here to stay. That was just Mother Nature playing a cruel joke! The snow is melting today. Yes we did have freezing temps. It went to -7 yesterday. It’s supposed to be +18 by Friday. We will have a good fall once all the snow is gone. Waving back at you!
Nathan, you are a treasure. I love reading the things you write. You make us all a bit smarter. That, and you spelled honour correctly!
I've been told it's usually painful on multiple levels, if it's any good. News flash: the best authors ALWAYS think what they write is rubbish. You so silly.
It’s been so crazy here since I got home. I just realised this morning that it’s Thanksgiving this weekend. Maybe we’ll be like the Quartermaines and have pizza for Thanksgiving! Doh! I guess I’ll do the unthinkable and purchase a few things at the Farmers’ market this morning. Too funny.
Today is international day of the girl child. “Every 10 minutes, somewhere in the world, an adolescent girl dies as a result of violence.” ~from the UN website. We need to do better.
It is so sad what happens to some young girls . A few days ago I had a conversation with a mum whose daughter, at the age of 12 ,was kidnapped from outside of her house on Xmas Eve and she was drugged and sexually assaulted for 5 days. Luckily the police found her and rescued her. Now she is 16. It all happened near to where I live.
That is terrible, Marta. Makes my blood boil. “As husbands and fathers and brothers, we have to step up, because every girl’s life matters. Every daughter deserves the same chance as our sons. Every woman should be able to go about her day — to walk the streets or ride the bus — and be safe, and be treated with respect and dignity. She deserves that.” ~Barrack Obama
Hi Marta, Snow is gone for now. It’s a beautiful sunny autumn day here, + 14C. So naturally I’m going to sit in a cold rink and watch the grandkids play hockey!
Hi Marta You two! Shut your mouths!! LOL You're going to jinx me. I'm holding my breath(haha) for cooler weather. It's 6 degrees warmer than average here!
Hockey is so Canadian to me Melc. Enjoy watching your grandchildren . Autumn , 6 degrees warmer than average it’s a lot. Enjoy the lucky weather. Have a lovely rest of the day everyone ! P.S. it’S getting dark here already
Hockey is a passion for us Canucks, Marta. It’s like the passion for football in Europe and elsewhere. Can you guess what is Canada’s National sport? Hint...it’s not hockey. No fair googling. I saw the movie Dunkirk tonight. It impacted me in a big way .
Okay, something I have NEVER known...what in the world is the etymology behind, "Canuck?!" What is this, "Canuck," word that you speak of? It seems like it might be one of those words Canadians call themselves, but could easily be offensive if a non-Canadian uses it? The only equivalent that comes to mind is how some non-Americans call ALL Americans, "Yanks." Though Americans will call themselves northerners, southerners, mid westerners... My money is on curling. I want to know how much those things weigh... I was VERY disappointed in Dunkirk. I don't want to spoil the movie, so I'll just say I didn't like the sequence of events. I thought it placed more focus on, "the art of movie making," ::gag:: which then took away from what should have been the real focus; the history. There is a place for that, but I think it robbed from the movie. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE history! Did it still make an impact? I found that it did, but human suffering AND compassion get me every time.
Good guess, Autumn, but not the correct one. Curling stones weigh between 38 to 44 pounds. I used to curl before Menieres, but the need to move the head up and down while sweep a rock did me in. That and I have a dodgy knee so I thought it best to retire. Points to you for even knowing what curling is. Canuck is an affectionate term. We don’t take offence by it. We have one of our hockey teams called the Vancouver Canucks. I agree with you about Dunkirk. My son teaches high school history and he loved it. Go figure. I didn’t think they hilighted the awesomeness of what really happened with the number of civilian boats and the number of trips they made to rescue those soldiers.⛵️⛴. They just skipped over it. I agree about the suffering. It makes me angry and sad to think of how much death and suffering happened in that war and others just because some bigoted insane fool wanted to rule the world. We don’t seem to be learning from history.
