Hello everyone, I have been feeling much better since the horrible attack I had about 10 months ago. I started the antivirals (valacyclovir) in February 2017 and stayed on 3g daily for 4 months and 2g daily for the next 2 months. After 6 months I started the 1g daily. I was feeling fine. I would experience a few dizzier days but nothing major. Then I started to noticed that 1g was NOT good for me. I started to get a bit more dizzy than normal and my ears started to get more stuffy. I got scared because it wasn't going away so I asked my GP for a course of good old oral steroids and it really help me. After finishing the steroids I went back to 3g. That was almost 3 weeks ago. I feel really good right now. I had a hearing test yesterday and it was very good and I haven't lost any hearing since the past 3 test. I plan on going down to 2g in the next weeks. My ENT really think that my Meniere's is associated with migraines as I had them in my teens and twenties and now I get dizzy with headaches. I always a bit dizzy but nothing that major and no sick stomach feeling which is what bothers me the most. I keep the very strict Meniere's and Migraine diet. I like to have a few drinks in the weekend and I have realized that wine is just not good for me especially red :-( Beer works the best with me believe it or not. I will begin some migraine supplements that my ENT suggested soon. I still get a steroid shot in the ear almost every month. I guess if it's working I should continue. I still ride my bike 4-5 times per week in very fast groups before work. I thank God everyday that my balance doesn't get affected. I will be 49 in December and i hope to be able to keep this monster under control. Take care, Karina
If i understand you correctly, you're feeling good now? Do you credit this to the steroids shot or going back to the 3g of AV? Did you change the generic brand by any chance? A lot of people have had issues with that, especially with Mylan. Many people are now reporting that changing to Famvir is working for them. I have changed over myself and it's working just fine. Do you also take 3000 mg of lysine per day on an empty stomach? Lastly, are you avoiding high-arginine foods?
Since I wasn't feeling so good, I took the oral steroids and in a few days I was doing great. I waited to finish the oral steroids course and put myself back on the 3g. I have always reacted great to steroids and this time they put me back to where I was while taking a higher dose of valacyclovir. I went back to the 3g daily for 3 weeks and will drop to 2 g this Monday. I feel that I need more than 1g. I guess I had a minor setback and I did a bunch of stuff to put me back to feeling well and it work. Now I will continue on the valacyclovir. I will do the 2g for 3 weeks and then??? What do you guys think? The shot of steroids in the ear is something I have been doing for a long time. It helps some but doesn't make it perfect. It's local so no side effects. I didn't change the brand of antiviral since I started. The migraine supplements are Co-Q10, Magnesium Oxide, and B-complex. The diet is not a problem. I avoid everything that it's bad for you. My stomach reacts badly to Lycine so I can't do I. K
If 1g isn't enough, then i'd stay at 2g. Keep in mind that a yearly kidney and liver test effectively eliminates any potential side effects.
