  1. Mel! You said no fair googling?! Soooo what IS the Canadian National Sport?

Learn from the historical bigots of the past(not to mention present)? Ridiculous. If mankind did that, we'd actually have to admit our mistakes and stop repeating them! What an absurdly practical idea.

    Ahh, Autumn,

You’re so honest! I would have used Mr. Google in a heartbeat!

Hint... think of our history; I know you love history. Nous sommes bilangue.

I'm going to guess lacrosse, but my first thought was curling. I've watched it before on tv, but I still don't understand it. No offense, but it's very odd looking. ;D

You’re right, Cheryl. Hockey is by far the most popular. Curling always takes a back seat to hockey.

Curling does look odd. The reason they sweep/brush is to create friction which creates mini melting so the rock will slide faster and stay straighter if they don’t want it to curl. It’s like a cross between shuffle board and chess. If the rock needs to curl to hit the target, then they don’t sweep/brush.

This movie is lots of fun. It pokes fun at curling. It’s worth a watch if for no other reason than Paul Gross!

I have always enjoyed watching curling especially when I was a child. Sweeping the ice is what I would like to try doing. Have you ever given it a go Melc?

How did Canada manage to inoculate itself against cricket?

    (Please send vaccine immediately)

Yes, Marta, I used to curl regularly until Menieres. Sweeping takes a bit of coordination as you have a slider on one foot and a gripper on the other. Once you get the hang of it, it’s fun.

Nathan, we do have cricket clubs in Canada . They are in the larger centres. I tried to watch it and understand, but all I ever got out of it was the expression sticky wicket. It’s my impression that cricket springs up where there are large numbers of immigrants that emigrate from countries where it is popular. It’s pretty much non existent in the rural areas.

The twin grandsons are learning rugby, albeit touch, so it’s not too rough. They love it.

Here’s a strong contender for the Darwin Award today. Love where he chose to place the extra clip for the photo!

I’m off to freeze at the rink to watch the two 9 year olds play hockey. One is a winger, the other defence so we get to watch one of ours all the time.

Nathan, will you teach Autumninthefall and anyone else who wants to learn how to post gifs?

  8. ROFL Mel! You're not supposed to tell everyone how inept I am with the computer. You're supposed to let me just SHOW everyone! I just want you to know, I know what a gif is...I asked my nephew.

Nathan, if I don't get an American football inoculation, you don't get one for cricket.

Strangely, the local college has a very good hockey team. I say strangely because hockey teams aren't common fixtures in the American South, so kids don't usually grow up playing the sport, unless they're in metropolitan areas. I went ice-skating for the first time when I was 15. It took two hours to drive to the nearest ice rink. I loved it!

Oops, sorry, Autumn. I thought everybody knew by now! . I don’t know how to post a gif either. That’s probably a good thing.

Skating is one of my favourite activities. When it gets cold enough the city will start flooding the outdoor rinks. They always throw down a flood on the grass beside the rinks that have boards. That way the hockey players can have the real rinks and those of us who do not enjoy getting pelted with pucks can skate on the other rink. There’s one just behind our house so we use it often. I love skating in the dark so will go at night. It is less crowded during the day but it doesn’t have that je ne sais quoi of the night skating.

It all sounds just perfect! I remember night skating when I was a child. It was a fabulous experience and I still remember it, after so many years.
I liked Canada On FaceBook some time ago and now I have an access to all lovely photos form all over the country . The most recent are from Alberta. What an enchanted place it is! Melc you are a lucky person

  11. I really liked the Canada "ride" at Epcot...somehow I think I'm missing out. I am determined to live in a cold climate, log cabin, wood burning stove, my pups, and my walls will be covered in book shelves ...in a place where I am not related to anyoneI've got it narrowed down to Alaska, Canada/Canadian border region, Siberia, Russia, or Scotland. LOL

Autumn it sounds really exciting! It would be nice to live in each of the places for a while. Saying that I would not survive a night in a log cabin on my own as I am scared of the dark. When the sun goes down, all of a sudden I remember all horror films I have seen on my life ha ha

  13. LOL And that is exactly why I'd take my fur babies with me! Nothing like large German Shepherds to keep the boogie men at bay

What's the Canada experience at Epcot? They simulate snow on a neighbor's driveway and you get to play friendly Canadian and shovel it?

  15. You figured it out. Cookies for you. ::smacking my head::

Marta, thanks! Yes our province is gorgeous. However, having been to London, I think you are very lucky, too. Have you been to the rooftop gardens in Kensington? Magical. It’s free !

You made me spit out my coffee, Pupper. That’s exactly what we do! How did you know? :)

  18. The strange part is, I really had to think about what it WAS like, as it was probably around 2005. Once I thought about it I realized that the experience consisted of standing in a room that revolved, or maybe it was the 3Desque movie screen? The speakers played, "Oh, Canada," while images on the screen were meant to depict unique things about Canada. All I remember seeing on the screen was the Quebec Winter Carnival. There goes me and my thing for cold weather again. That's what happens when you grow up in a subtropical climate and hate it! No joke, I received a 100% wool sweater(why?)on Christmas Day when I was a kid, and it was 80 outside. LOL

Autumn that is so funny did you ever have a chance to wear it?

  20. Funny enough, I still own this sweater, Marta! I always hoped I’d be able to wear it one day, and now I finally live in a region that does become cold enough, on occasion.
