Has anyone had this surgery after already having a shunt placed in the sac? I did and unfortunately the surgery was not very successful. My understanding is it is very difficult to find the sac. My guess is my surgeon missed.

    This is very interesting!

You're welcome, johns. You have a starting place, now. Maybe with a few phone calls you can run down an ENT who does EDB surgery. Good luck!

    Johns and JKC

I too live in NJ...small world!!

I currently work with Dr Chandrashaker as well. I have also worked with Dr. Ort in NJ and Dr. Kohan in NYC. Of the the three Dr. Chandrashaker is by far the most likely to discuss this.

That being said...if you get a name at Weil Cornell let me know...have either of you had the shunt surgery? I did last year and it did not work.

    Thanks!

    bmac339,
I have not had any surgery as I am Atypical. Luckily no vertigo just off balance. I like to keep up on everything just in case vertigo ever starts.

    Bmac339,
Sorry to hear your ESD didn't work. That's a real bummer.
I have not had any surgeries only steroid injections. Is the doc you refer to Dr. Sujana Chandrasekhar the same one mentioned above by jkc? There is another one (ENT/OTO) in NYC with a different first name (Hosakere).

I am referring to the same one. Sujana. Tough to spell last name. I was actually in to see her this morning. She is way more into research than many of the others docs I've seen. She is definitely worth a visit.

"A member who hasn't posted in over a year had this procedure. She reports she had it done by her doctor at Weill Cornell in New York City at the NY Presbyterian Hospital on 68th Street. The member's name is hebejoy and she posts about it near the end of this thread:

Thanks. I may give her a try. But I would really like to find the doctor who gave "hebejoy" his/her EDP at NY Presbyterian - mentioned by Cheryl above..

Question---If this procedure does what the name indicates--the 'duct is blocked'? I had the Endolymphatic Shunt procedure--in 2012--and have not had Vertigo since then. Like some of the ones here--I still have head pressure--off and on dizziness and tinnitus (not bad) but there.

And--very little hearing in one ear--and about 60% in the other ear--now wearing bilaterly hearing aids that do help alot--but even those don't make some conversations and TV and Music pleasant. And the $5,000.00 was hard to 'swallow'. I do know good ones can be gotten cheaper--but you have to shop around for sure.

I just was 'ready to invest' to see if these would be better than the ones I had that were much cheaper--and they are not any better. So--just my input. So good to keep up on the lastest things--just wondered how this other procedure is different? Thanks.

    Yanksgirl,

Very happy to hear your shunt surgery was a success. Here is a little video which is helpful in understanding Endolymphatic Duct Blockage procedure (EDB). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrk7OyAB_ss
