Hi all. First of all thanks so much for all the helpful information everyone contributes. I was given Lasix in July '16 to combat my Meniere's. It did not stop or slow down the vertigo and dizzy spells I was having. I would have a couple of months of relief and then weekly attacks so I found your forum and started pycnogenols in late April '17 along with JOH and antivirals in August . I am still taking the Lasix but since it didn't help even when I upped the dose (on my own) I want to stop taking them altogether. My next Dr appt. isn't till Feb so I can't ask her till then. Have any of you dealing with this disease so much longer than I just quit the diuretic with no untoward consequences? Thanks in advance! April
I quit them. They never helped and caused side effects. For me, they were nothing but trouble. I was 'cured' by antivirals. That was almost ten years ago. I now take a channel blocker for blood pressure issues. I do not take a diuretic because of the side effects. I guess that might be a question. Do you need the diuretic for other reasons such as bp? Do you show some restraint on the sodium?
Thanks to all of you for your input. It may be too early to tell if the AV's and JOH are the cure for me but according to my calendar I have only had 2 episodes I classified as short and slight with no vertigo and only balance issues since starting them in Aug. Less than an hour each. I am so hoping to be on the right track. I only take the Lasix for the Meniere's so I don't need it for any other malady. I hate having to stay near the bathroom for repeated trips so I am wanting a good reason to give it up. Thanks again for all your help. You guys on here have given me more info than any of the 3 docs I have seen for this horrible problem. I am lucky though that I got the AV's with no problem from my last dr.
I am taking Acyclovir 800mg daily. I started with 2400mg daily and stepped down according to that doc's (Gacek?) information. I had to self pay as my insurance said it wasn't covered in that amount but it was pretty cheap so I didn't mind too much.
Most diuretics prescribed for Meniere's gave me an allergy reaction (weird cause I'm realy not allergic). About 5 years ago my neurologist found another diuretic called Dyrenium so I started taking it without any side effects. This month my ent suggested I try to get off. I have downed the dose and I'm doing fine. In a week I plan to down it some more and then quit all together. I'm taking 1g 2x daily of valacyclovir and 16g 4x daily of betahistine and doing well. A bit dizzy sometimes but feeling great. Hope you get wel soon
Thanks again for all the help, kind words and wishes. I hope everyone affected by this awful condition gets relief.
