I'm wondering if I can still have a nice sea salt to taste in my food if I cut the sodium way back? Does anyone have knowledge/experience with this?

    Thank you!

I got the idea to use Old Bay seasoning from the Mind of Meniere's book. It has 60mg vs. 560 table salt/sea salt. It doesn't taste like the sea so much as sea crabs. I'm ok with it. I like it on most things.

Correction, Old Bay has 160mg of sodium per 1/4tsp, not 60mg.

Thank you Puppers! I have Old Bay on hand and will give it a try!

Do you recommend the book Mind of Meniere's?

I liked the book, yes. I can't find it now since I moved to new home. I didn't read it all. The thing that stuck with me most is his emphasis on the importance of mindset. Attitude. How mood (the mood YOU decide to have) is tied into how Meniere's affects you.

What's your history with Meniere's? You should make a post about it.

Well, it IS called Mind Over Meniere's, so obviously he's emphasising mindset. sorry

I think he has a website and people can comment on his postings.

Re. your salt question, for what it's worth, salt never effected my Meniere's. Except for sometimes PERHAPS when I had a super crazy high salt meal. Random results though, even at that.

Test the salt theory out for yourself though. Go to McDonald's and ask for "The Super Crazy High Salt Meal please." And see what happens to you. Actually I recommend Wendy's. Very salty meat, and they seem to double salt their fries with chunky sea salt. Then salt the fries again yourself. See what happens. Seriously. Mystery solved for yourself in 10 minutes.

(I'm not manic, I'm just having a rare good day today so I think my endorphins are going nuts and I keep posting like a crazy squirrel.)

    Hi seekingsimplicity,

If I understand your question, I think that sea salt and table salt are both sodium chloride. I believe table salt has iodine added and sea salt may have some trace minerals.

I assume you’re limiting your sodium intake. FWIW I tried to stay under 1500 mg of sodium for years. It didn’t make any difference in my symptoms. I think it’s a good idea to be careful of sodium intake for general health reasons, but I’m not convinced it’s a contributor to MM symptoms for everyone.

If you’re limiting sodium to prevent fluid retention, be aware that sugar can be a contributor to fluid retention as well. Not to mention that’s poison.

Moderate the salt and spread it evenly throughout the day. That's what i was told.
