Hi, just wondering if anyone has taken one of the newer blood thinner's and had adverse reactions--or it affects the Meniere's symptoms? Since it 'thins the blood' and anything that affects blood flow may indirectly or directly affect the inner ear-makes me wonder. I have been put on the Eloquis blood thinner--for A-fib--5 days now and feel 'awful'. Light headed, nausea and fatigue very bad! Woke up from nap with horrible high pitched 'tinny' ringing in my affected ear! I've felt awful since starting the medicine but just wasn't sure it was related. I have ongoing head pressure--no vertigo anymore--but some balance issues--and shopping, etc. is a real 'challenge'. This, though is awful. My head has gotten so much worse and now the ringing soooo loud. Just wondering if there is a connection to the new blood thinner and if anyone here has had this happen? Thanks.
That sounds awful--I have a hard time with loud ringing. Did it stop yet? As you say, it's easy to imagine how something like that could indirectly or directly impact the inner ear. Sometimes I find that loud ringing precedes an improvement. I hope that's the case for you.
I have had another episode of it--only this time it was like a 'horn' or flute sound! Weird. Started in my left ear, then my right--got very loud and lasted maybe 10 mins. or so. Finally got down to a sort of 'roar'. Today it's just the daily roaring going on. I did get permission--reluctantly from my doctor--to stop the Eliquis. He doesn't think it's the meds causing my dizziness, etc. Since I've just been on it 5 days--I stopped it and took the 2 baby aspirin (I have A-fib) so need a blood thinner. Today I feel basically the same--sooo lightheaded and roaring, but I just stopped the meds--so 'if' it's that, I figure it will take a few days to improve. Hoping so---otherwise, I may go back on it. Though I'm reading some scary side effects with taking it. I have to really 'push myself' these days to just do what is necessary. Sometimes it helps--keeping busy--other times I feel really awful. Sure hoping, with all the holidays on us, to feel better soon. The stress doesn't help I know. thanks for your reply By the Bay
I hope you feel better soon. I think with all that stress going on, some stress reduction might be helpful. It's a simple thing, but I find that drinking chamomile tea can help calm my system down. Maybe time for a cuppa?
Hi About a year ago I had a bad cycling accident that required total shoulder reconstruction surgery. After the surgery, the nurses put on a big brace on my arm and told me not to take it off until my follow up visit in 7 days. The brace didn't fit me correctly and was choking blood vessels in my arm. I developed a blood clot. They put me on blood thinners. I was taking Eliquis and then Xarelto. Everything fell apart while on the blood thinner. I had the worst ringing in the ears, ear pressure, vertigo, dizziness, etc..... So in my case the blood thinners really trigger and made my Meniere's worst than ever. Karina
Wow--Karina-you have really had bad issues going on--so sorry. Do hope you are 'on the mend now. And thanks for letting me know you had issues with blood thinner too. Doctors just don't get patients symptoms unless they tell them and probably some just 'don't' or the doctors think it's not the meds. Who knows?? Anyway--I'm off of it 2nd day now and so far the ringing and dizziness/brain fog, etc. is still pretty intense. Hoping it eases soon. Just trying to 'keep on keeping on' is a chore these days.
I'm ok now. Back on the bike very competitively but still some dizziness here and there. My take on the blood thinners is that they change the composition of your blood. It may very well change the way your body was used to work. I think it's too much for your ears to handle. It took a long time after I was off the blood thinners for my ear to settle back down. I read that one of the side effects of those blood thinners is vertigo. Take care, Karina
Aspirin, also a blood thinner, is notorious for causing tinnitus. My husband has gottena persistent sore throat from plavix, also a blood thinner. The point being, a lot of these drugs cause side effects and they arent always on the list of common side effects. I would defifintely tell the dr your suspicions and ask if you can go off for a few days to confirm or switch to another to see if that helps.
I've gone off of it--he really encouraged me to stay on it--but said if the side effects were troubling to stop. I stopped Monday of this week. Yesterday began to feel some better--still head pressure/dizziness but not overwhelming and the ear ringing is less--so far. Thanks for the input.
I don't know how potent it is, but I think Gingko is a blood thinner, and it's in the JOH regime, so many of us are doing well with it. Sounds like a very complex situation. I hope you feel much better soon.
Thanks, me too! Good report from Rheumatologist yesterday--no Lupus as was suspected a couple of months ago. Some sort of 'skin scleroderma' going on--but it goes with Pulmonary hypertension sometimes and since that is 'very low' on the scale (a 29 number where normal is 25 and under--the doctor said they will just keep an 'eye' on it. I see her again in 6 mos. So, good news from all tests--I'm very thankful. But still I ask the question: 'Why am I soooo dizzy (head pressure) most of the day and why has it gotten worse the last 6 mos or so? No answers--just deal with it. And I do. I keep on keeping on.
Yes--I have June. I used to get migraines when younger, in fact until I was in my 60's. But haven't had any 'at all' until my b/p soared a few times, sending me to the E.R. after taking Prednisone and one other time when I was admitted due to a 'virus' and my head was 'splitting--like migraines of old'! What I feel though is similar to what accompanies migraines--the awful pressure but add to that the feeling of 'if I move--I'll start spinning' or pass out!" This happens when I'm sitting upright or standing. If I lay back or even just recline--it usually eases--not always, but usually.
Yay for no lupus! Have you tried the acupressure wrist bands for nausea? They really take the edge of dizziness and nausea for me. I use sea band brand.
And without the typos: Have you tried the acupressure wrist bands for nausea? They really take the edge off dizziness and nausea for me. I use "sea bands" brand.
Yanks, tou didnt use any nose sorays or find youself around a lot of chemical smells like furniture stain lately did you? Both these things have set off shrieking tinnitus as opposed to the usual roaring one when i had the problem.
I never use nose sprays. Haven't been around the furniture 'stuff' to cause this. Dizziness/head pressure just 'happens' and usually within a few mins. after I get out of bed in the morning. Will sometimes stay at a 'tolerable' level--but this day it has not! I truly have had to get to my chair, recline some and close my eyes and just 'chill' and try relaxation breathing, etc. I also try Xanax (1/2 tablet) when it's that bad. It helps me relax but doesn't relieve the symptoms. Just deal with them a bit better. I used to get this early mornings then by noon it would ease some and just come and go on occasion during the day. Now it's a daily thing and I never know if I can plan things to do-or go--and just have to really 'push' to if it's necessary. Sometimes it helps to do that--so it makes one wonder if it's 'all in the head' with stress making it worse-anticipating the worst, etc. A truly disturbing symptom of this really awful condition. Seems we all share it one way or another. Does help to 'sound off' here though.
