Kayaking is awesome. I've been tempted to purchase a sea kayak for a while myself. I had a friends white-water kayak at my disposal for a couple of months last year. Though the white-water design was harder to maintain a set cause in choppy seas, it was still an incredibly relaxing & awesome experience to take it out every morning.

It was difficult to maintain a set course in choppy seas, too.

Happy Independence Day! Free yourselves from fear, dependence on a bad habit, eating the foods you know will mess up your health. Sometimes all it takes is one small change to start a personal revolution.

I wish you all the courage to be truly free in your mind.

Today I did Zumba! It was a lot of fun and very high intensity. I can't do the spinning around moves for obvious reasons so I avoid them. Taking a break from weights since I did a tough upper body workout yesterday.

We have a refrigerator full of good food and yummy fruit. I don't eat "holiday food" so it's just the basics for me. That's what I enjoy anyway. The cherries are SO delicious this time of the year.

Kayaking sounds like a lot of fun and a good workout too. I doubt I could handle the choppy motion of the water. That's a trigger for me.

Enjoy your day. Do something healthy for yourselves.

I know exactly what the cause of my symptoms are thanks to the specialists I have consulted as well as much help and guidance from members I have met up with and gotten to know well. I am so grateful for that. It has helped me get to where I am today.

I'm very selective regarding whom I disclose my health and personal information to, but I do thank you for your good wishes and eagerness to help.

    Have a wonderful weekend :)

I just returned from a weeks vacation on a beautiful lake. The weather was perfect and I had plenty of exercise. We swam, hiked and walked each day. My grandchildren enjoyed the water, especially fishing. It was a wonderful, uplifting family vacation. One of the highlights, my eight year old granddaughter had her first experience in a lake. At age 1.5 years she had a liver transplant and had to stay out of lakes, ponds. Her doctors gave her the OK to swim this year in a lake. She just needed to make sure she didn't ingest the water. It was a blessing to watch her play with her cousins and enjoy the lake, jumping off the dock into the water.

This week I am scheduled for surgery to remove a melanoma on my ear. Unfortunately I will not be able to exercise for at least 10 days as I will have to have a skin graph. UGH!!! Thankful that the melanoma was caught early. A reminder to all to have your skin checked at least once a year. If you find anything on your skin that looks suspicious have it checked! My surgery is on Thursday so I will be very active for the next 4 days! My goal is to eat very healthy every day and not go crazy due to the lack of exercise. Intrepid, run a few extra miles for me will you? ;D

redwing! So good to see you. I thought about you this week and missed you on this thread. It's just amazing your granddaughter is doing as well as she is and finally getting to enjoy herself. I know you all had a wonderful time! When will you get to see them again?

So sorry to read about the melanoma :( How did you discover it? Routine skin check? I had my skin checked at the dermatologist's last summer and all was well. Need to go in again next year. She told me every couple of years was fine.
I wish you all the very best. Keep me posted on how you feel post-surgery and yes, rest as much as you can.

I will definitely put in some mileage with you in mind :) This has been deload week so I've done enjoyable things like Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, running just a couple of miles and lifted weights but not too heavy. It's also been carb loading week so more carbs than usual to replenish glycogen stores. On Monday, I will be back on track again with my usual workouts.

Eat well. Mostly sleep. Sleep is important and so instrumental as far as wellness is concerned. I sleep plenty, thank goodness. I've gotten used to the rocking and rolling motions I sometimes feel at night and don't get in a panic anymore. Vertigo is another story...

Enjoy the day. Spend it with loved ones. Live your day with purpose.

When you're stressed a good walk helps you think more clearly and I got it out of the way for today.

Good luck wih the melanoma surgery and aftermath, Redwing. I had a melanoma removed 25 years ago. I was very lucky to have no further sign of it but we have to be vigilent. I hope you are as lucky with yours.

Thanks June and Intrepid. My melanoma was discovered during a routine mole check. I have to go ever 3 months because this is not my first time with a melanoma. However, we found it early enough, it should cause no more issues. The issue is the location, on the ear...my ear will need to be reconstructed. My poor little ear, it is my laby ear, so it has had it's share of surgery!! The doctor will take skin from underneath my neck and graph it to the ear. I told him he could take as much skin as needed!! Maybe then my grandkids will leave my gobbler alone, HA HA!! I am a redhead with lots of freckles. I love the outdoors and always have. I guess I am pretty prone to skin cancer. I feel very fortunate to have insurance so I can have skin checks throughout the year.

It is a beautiful day outside, going to get in some good exercise, only have 3 more days then on the mend for 10 days. Peace and Joy to you all.

Good to read your spirits are high and this ain't your first rodeo! So you know what to expect and how to recover well. I will be sending you lots of good vibes for a healthy healing. You'll be back on that bike in no time!

I slept in this morning and got way more than my 7 to 8 hours of sleep. I think I hit 10 hours but it's good to get that little extra some days. I'm home today so I can take it easy. I didn't make it to my morning Pilates class so I will lift weights later and go to evening Pilates. It provides the right amount of stretching and core work to improve my balance. I work a lot on balance because we all need that so much. It's important to work your core, glutes and legs so you build strength.

It's a gorgeous day here so some pool time is mandatory. Lots of sunscreen, of course. I don't stay very long under the sun. A couple of hours and I feel great. The sun is so healing.

Change something today. Just one thing and be consistent until it becomes a good habit.

Enjoy your day; you'll never get this one back.

My surgery is scheduled for 6:30 in the morning. I was hoping to go in a little later so I would have time for a good work out. Oh well. Now looking at 10 days of R&R then back to the gym if all goes as planned. Time will tell. Today was a good day, yoga and a round of golf and an hour in my garden. Tomorrow, well only time will tell. Peace and Joy everyone!

Thinking about you red and sending you much love. Let us know how you feel when you are up to it.

40 minutes weights + 50 minutes yoga this morning. Swimming later in the evening. Nystagmus has gone way down and I'm feelin' groovy again.

    Have a a great day y'all.

Thanks for the good wishes. All went well. Took about 3 hours of surgery. Removed the melanoma and then took skin from in front of my good ear and grafted it into the other ear. I got a mini face lift out of the deal. Only problem is, it was on just one side ??? I have pain, sort of like a toothache. I am not one to take meds so my last Tylenol was yesterday at 3:00. Getting ready to take another one as I just came in from a very leisurely walk and the ear is throbbing a bit. Got the blood pumping just a bit. I am limited to easy, gentle walks, no gardening or bending over. Have to sleep sitting up. That was a pleasure and will be for the next 9 days. I hope everyone has a great day, be thankful for the skin you are in and cherish it! Peace.

So good to read your update, redwing! You're back on your feet again and walking is just so good in every way.

Today is rest day for me. I'm sore from yesterday's workout so it will be a long walk kinda day.

I had the crockpot going last night and woke up to a very aromatic chicken dish. Will make some Jasmine rice later and a side salad of mixed baby Swiss chard, baby spinach and baby kale with vine ripened tomatoes.

Breathe deeply. Center yourselves. Get back on the path.

Early to bed, early to rise!

I see my trainer soon. It's leg day so RDL, hip thrusters, all kinds of squats, and speed drills. Will go dance it out at Zumba with a dear friend after that. Music makes me happy but Latin American music even more so.

redwing I hope you are feeling stronger today and better. Did you go for a walk yesterday?

Have a great day. I have several fun activities planned for the weekend. Whatever you do, make it something you love. Stay healthy!

Early to bed, early to rise is a good one.
I was on here late last night and when I got up early, I wished I had gone to bed sooner. But , I wasn't the only one! Lots of people here late last night.

So, today's fitness goal is to double my walk. I know I can do it! And for dinner a nice Greek salad, I can't wait. We've been snacking on watermelon and baby carrots. So much better than junk food. I'm on my way!

I love the early morning. I also love my sleep so it's generally early to bed. Last night I listened to a podcast on NPR called Overcoming. It's just amazing how resilient some human beings are.

We have fresh watermelon in the refrigerator as well. It's nice and cut up into cubes ready to eat! I don't eat too much of it as it has a high sugar content but it's such a yummy fruit.

This morning I had my jar of overnight oats for breakfast. 1/2 cup of organic, gluten free oats, 1 cup of unsweetened almond vanilla milk, 1 tbs. Chia seeds, 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/2 scoop of protein powder and a tbs, of chopped almonds. Breakfast of champions!

Went for an early morning hour-long walk right before sunrise. Watched the sun rise over the lake. Sat on a bench and just soaked all that energy in. The family is back later this evening. I may go for a run on the treadmill later. It's a great way to feel centered. Yoga at home, with a friend, after that.

Be kind to yourselves. Be proud of who you are. Eat well. Sleep. Do something nice for someone else today. Laugh. Be alive.

I am doing just fine, thank you. I did get out for two walks and today I did an hour walk. My only complaint is sleeping. I have to sleep sitting up and let me tell you that has gotten real old. Tonight will be night 4 and I have 3 more to go before i see the doctor again. I am hoping he lets me lay down and sleep, that's all I ask. I am trying my best to be good and not bend over even though I desperately want to pull weeds in the garden. I am going to get a small stool and see if I can weed and keep my head above my heart at the same time. Not easy for this ole girl to sit around and be content. I did have a good day yesterday. We took a ride to Kennebunkport Maine, ate at a restaurant looking out over the harbor. A real treat. I can't ever complain about my life. I have been blessed in so many ways. The bumps along the road on my journey of life have been just that "bumps." I thank the good Lord everyday.

Enjoy your day my friend and peace and joy sent to all.

It's a super nice day here, in every sense. Woke up refreshed. Went out last night for sushi and a movie. Saw Chef with Jon Favreau. He is one of my favorite actors/directors. The message of the movie was great; don't compromise who you are and what your talents are just to fit in.

Seeing my massage therapist later today. I have a session with my trainer before that so it's going to be a nice massage. He does trigger point therapy and myofascial release, which is so so good.

redwing you are so right in saying we are grateful for the lives and loves we have. All of this would be so much harder without the loving and encouraging people who stand by us and see us despite the circumstances.

Just got off the phone with Titus. I love that woman so much! She is strong, strong, strong and such a fighter. She fights the good fight and is a source of inspiration to me.

“Take responsibility for your own happiness, do not expect people or things to bring you happiness, or you could be disappointed.”

I love this quote and it is the reason I pursue the things I do despite the difficulties. I have to keep doing all I can, every day, because it gives me purpose and helps me elevate my standard just a little bit more.

I wish you all happiness today. Pursue what helps you rise above the challenges the day throws at you, Stay centered. Do something you enjoy.

Eat more fruits and vegetables :)
