You're supposed to take a lysine pill on an empty stomach. So I wake up in the morning and take it. Question. How long do I have to wait to eat afterward? I usually wait about an hour. But man, I'm hunnnnngry when get up.

Thanks for mentioning this, weird I bought Solaray brand of lysine and the directions on bottle said take with a meal. I just finished googling the question and it does seem most say to take it before a meal, since it may becomes less effective if absorbed with food.

I have just started taking JOH regime six days ago. I had been in remission from m for six months but had the worst vertigo attack ever 12 days ago, and have had repeated attacks since. Also having to take citrus bioflavonoids until the lemon comes in after holiday.

Praying for a miracle so I can go back to work, looking at this forum can be helpful, but depressing when I read that some people have had to quit jobs. Best to you. B

Taking lysine with food causes it to get mixed with the other amino acids digested from the proteins in the food (there will be some in virtually all food). When that happens, the body uses all of the amino acids, including the lysine, to synthesize new proteins in the body. The lysine, then, does not remain in the blood very long; it can't effectively jamb up the chemical machinery herpes viruses use to replicate.

Therefore, be sure to take lysine at least 20 minutes before eating (body will absorb all of it then and it can bind with enzymes in herpes viruses), or at least 2 hrs after a meal, when all of the meal's proteins will have been digested in the stomach.
