Oh crap is about all I could say when I woke this morning to that horrible feeling. Jan 31 would have marked my 7th year anniversary of being vertigo free after 4 years of attacks.

It started last night when I felt very much on the edge of it, very off kilter when moving, off balance, but no obvious spinning. Also my ears were pulsating with every beat of my heart plus feeling full. I took half a promethazine hoping to prevent an attack. When I woke this morning things were slowly moving, so I took another half a promethazine plus 10mgs a valium, which is A LOT for little me. This attack was not as bad as my previous ones, though if I didn't get the meds into me as soon as I did no telling where it would have gone. The valium put me into a nice sleep for 4 hours and when I woke I was much better, but still feeling a bit off and I'm not moving very fast.

Now I wonder, why after 7 years is it back? I'm so distressed. The only clue that something might be off is a strange thing that has been happening for the last 3 weeks. Not sure how to explain this but will try. Do you know that feeling/noise you get in your ear if you have an ear infection/ache where when you burp or hiccup it makes a crackling noise and hurts? That has been happening to my left ear only for the last three weeks, I have no ear infection and other than that my ear hasn't been bothering me. I haven't had a cold or been sick otherwise since last April. Last night when I had pulsatile tinnitus it was more in my right ear so I'm not sure if any of this is connected.

Other possibility is that I've brought milk back into my life, stared at the beginning of the year. I've been off dairy for 95% of the time for at least 6-7 years. But the other times I've had milk since then I didn't get vertigo. So I have no idea if there is a connection there.

Needless to say I'm rather upset about this cause I have no idea what is coming next.

Sorry hear this happened to you. What, if anything had been doing to keep the vertigo attacks at bay? For example, any specific supplements?

I made some major changes to my diet several years ago - no more gluten or dairy, very limited additives, low fat, very low sodium etc. Most everything I eat is either made by my own hands or fresh fruits/veggies, I'll eat chicken and very limited red meat (must be organic, grass fed and all that). I'm assuming the combination of diet and diuretic I take daily have helped especially since I've only had two bad attacks since starting that and both of those were within the first year and one of those was when I had influenza and a high fever for several days. I've since found out I have celiac and my GI doctor thinks that's what was causing my vertigo.

I do take supplements but not to keep the vertigo away, like I said it's been almost 7 years since my last attack, but the supplements I only started in the last two years.

I know there is no rhyme or reason to this disease but feel so mad that after all this time it is back and I have no way of knowing is this is just a one time setback or if it's only going to get worse.

I am so sorry to hear that for you. When I was first diagnosed with attacks when I cut gluten out of my diet my menieres seemed to disappear, but then reared its ugly head maybe six months later and I realized it was tied to nightshade plants, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes and potatoes. This was a hardship to cut out, but the vertigo was too much. Now a year later I have been having almost daily attacks for the past month, I notice dairy and chicken seem to be a problem. Basically I live on brown rice, soup broth, apple sauce, lettuce and some vegetables and fish. Going to start taking some serc on Tuesday , it comes in the mail.
For me I think certain foods definitely set off the menieres, but not sure why. Investigating more on leaky gut syndrome. Unfortunately conventional doctors don ' t buy into and holistic doctors soo expensive. I would cut out the dairy until you get your attacks under control.
Even though I have been on John's regime, still getting attacks. Wishing the best for you, so disappointing when menieres comes out of remission. -Bonnie
