Sorry I haven't had a chance to look around his Forum too much but my mom was diagnosed with Meniere's disease about a month ago. It's been very serious for her in that she has sudden attacks of dizziness and vomiting. She's already had one treatment where the doctor gave her an injection into her ear and then she had another one today. It's been so bad for her that her quality of life has been diminished to almost nothing. It's been a psychological nightmare for her as well and she's seeing a specialist for this but there's only so much that he can do at this time. Any suggestions or thoughts would be very appreciative.

Kevin, welcome to this site. It has been a godsend to me and many others and I hope it can help your mother.

First and foremost, your mother, hopefully with your help, will need to take charge of her disease. Some medical professionals will be helpful and some won't but she will have to be in charge.

Many people here will relay what successes they have had and unfortunately your mother will have to do trial by error to find out what works for her. Documenting everything is critical.

For me, the JOH vitamin regimen and antivirals have given me my life back so I am convinced that my disease is caused by the herpes virus. For others, surgery has been the only answer.

I wish your mother all the best in her search for relief.

Thank you for the response teesdale. I definitely lead to poke around a little more and offer up more information on her situation.

Apologies I just noticed I implied there are only two treatments - antivirals or surgery. Unfortunately there are many other potential treatments that your mother may have to try including the injections she has already received.

    Hi Kevin,

I agree with Teesdale' s comments. Please have her try the John of Ohio regiment. Also for me, cutting out all gluten made a big difference. I have recently come out of remission and may not be the most authoritative on the site, but have been blessed by the posts and experiences of others and have learned a lot. Presently I am looking for a doctor to prescribe me an antiviral medication. You can find out more about antivirals if you look under the subject headings.
I know how discouraging meniere ' s can be, but it seems regardless of your mom' s circumstance right now she is being blessed by your initiative and support. Wishing you both the best. Bonnie

I would definitely try anti virals first. Not many ENTs will help. You may need to see your primary care doc.

Look over the threads on here. Lots of good info on how much to take and which brands are the best.

She'll definitely have to try the antiviral drugs. That's not something that she has considered in the past or that has been presented to her as a treatment so that's very interesting thank you for that information. What she's currently getting is the Gentamicin treatment. She's gotten one injection so far and the vomiting has gone away but the dizziness spells are still pretty prevalent.

MM may be caused by multiple systemic (stealth) infections. There is plenty of scientific evidence behind viral and fungal causes.

Anti-viral medications help some folks. They didn't help me (though I have antibodies for past viral infections), but lots of folks here have been helped by anti-viral meds.

Anti-fungal medications helped me (systemic yeast infection). Systemic fungal infections can cause many health issues.

Another possible source is long-term dental infections. I discovered that a lot of my general inflammation and illness went away after I had my stealth dental infections fixed. These were due to botched root canals and were active infections for as many as 40 years.

Please check this link and see if any of this applies to your Mom: http://menieres.org/talk/index.php?topic=2830.0

    Good luck!
