Perhaps not controversial, but I'm hesitant to say I'm a bit doubtful of how effective it might ultimately be. When I got my hearing aides with the built-in therapy signal (ocean waves sound), I was hopeful - having been told by one doctor that if some external source supplies the 'missing' frequencies, it can alleviate or even take away the tinnitus. While the therapy signal is nice enough and a somewhat pleasant diversion while wearing the aids, shortly after taking them out the tinnitus signal is right there again. Granted that I don't wear the aids as much as I probably should. All that being said, I hope this idea works for you. All of us, unfortunately, were just born too early for the state of medical science to have the wherewithal to simply eradicate something like tinnitus. I have no doubt that at some point in the future people will not be walking around with this ridiculous constant ringing in the ears.
Hearing aids never worked for me either. Antivirals did take away my tinnitus. I just figure all research is good research even if it just disproves a theory. I know i have been able over time to assign a white noise interpretation to certain kinds of tinnitus. In 9months i never could with the cochlear hydrops 90,000 watt fan noise.
