I am now 82 years old and was diagnosed with Meniere's about 20 years ago. At that time I saw an Otolaryngologist who put me through a number of tests. Through the years I had numerous severe attacks. Now, the last Meniere's attack was over 1 1/2 years ago. I have had a lot of minor vertigo attacks. Taking a shower can bring these on or just sitting at my computer. I make it to bed and they are gone in about 15 minutes. I was wondering of others had the same things happen. If this isn't Meniere's, any idea what I have?
Greetings, Ken. I have had a similar change in my symptoms. For 25 years I had severe vertigo but that morphed into frequent disequilibrium a couple of years ago. I went on antivirals last summer and now I'm symptom free with exception of mild tinnitus. Strangely, the hearing in my affected ear has improved significantly. Best of luck.
"Meniere's Disease" is a non-diagnosis. It's a scientific term for "we don't know why you're sick", but it has a label because lots of people have it (similar symptoms, progression). Do you have tinnitus and hearing loss? If not, it's probably not MM. What you have may be MAV (Migraine Associated Vertigo) or it could be another general problem that can't be easily diagnosed. MM may be caused by multiple systemic (stealth) infections. There is plenty of scientific evidence behind viral and fungal causes. Anti-viral medications help some folks. They didn't me, but lots of folks here have been helped. Anti-fungal medications helped me (systemic yeast infection). Another possible source is long-term dental infections. I discovered that a lot of my general inflammation and illness went away after I had my stealth dental infections fixed. These were due to botched root canals and were active infections for as many as 40 years. Please check this link and see if any of this applies to you. http://menieres.org/talk/index.php?topic=2830.0 Good luck!
