As I mentioned in another thread, I had to go back to 3000 mg/day for valacyclovir (Camber) after dropping to 2000mg/day after 3 weeks on the highest dosage due to a recurrence of vertigo, and greater aural fullness/tinnitus. . I'm been back on 3000 mg/day since March 6th, and although the vertigo issues or balance problems have disappeared, , I've had very little improvement in the fullness/tinnitus area. Has anyone else experienced this and how long did you stay at the maximum dose until the symptoms improved enough to reduce your dosage? I'm seriously considering changing to the Northstar brand or famvir if I don't see much improvement after another month or two.
I had a very hard time locating Northstar generic. I also have no idea if a/vs will work for me, but if you do switch I've found Rite Aid carries it. In addition to places others have mentioned.
Started on January 25th, Went down to 2000mg/day after 3 weeks per Dr. Gacek's recommendation, went back to 3000mg/day on March 6th after things went south.
My own experience was that i got some immediate (within the first month) relief, maybe 60% improvement but it took many months for the rest to resolve. I think allergy treatment (taking a load off the immu e system) helped a lot. I also surmise that even when the virus has been arrested/made dormant/etc that damage has been done and it takes time for healing to take place. Did you ever have mono? Didnt it take a lot of time to get back to normal? Same family of viruses.
So i dont necessarily think of it as antivirals not working maybe they have done their part and the body has to heal. Just my theory. I dont think anyone knows for sure.
As June said, I don't think anyone knows. In my case I was on 3000mg for about 4 months, then down to 2000mg for 2 months, then down to 1000mg for couple weeks when I started feeling off so I went back up to 2000mg for the past couple months. Feeling great so I don't think I'll ever go back to 1000mg. I may test out 1500mg if l get the courage up.
Ok, thanks for your replies. I will just have to be more patient and thank God that I don't have any vertigo issues.
Just a chime in here, this info is elsewhere but pertinent. I started northstar 3g tid in November. Got switched to Camber in January. I was feeling better until the change. Finally got back on northstar about a month ago, some improvements but still a TON on tinnitus and some fullness. I still have some daily dizziness and occasionally a light, 30 Second vertigo episode. I’m staying on tid for a while longer to see if anything changes. I wish I hadn’t got changed to Camber as the tinnitus was way more manageable back in January. It’s kind of confusing because it sounds like it’s coming from the middle of my head as well as my bad ear in different sounds..if that makes sense.
I've just noticed in the last couple of weeks that my left ear is more sensitive to loud noises. I had to turn my hearing aid up today at an important meeting and the corresponding noise takes it's toll on my ear later in the day. Right now I have loud tinnitus with the associated fullness and pressure. Back in late February that symptom was gone, which was why I had no hesitation with going on 2 pills/day. I'm just not seeing any improvement with the aural fullness. I had one day a couple of weeks ago where it was gone, but the next day it was right back. It's like the disease is teasing me. What is weird is the first prescription of the anti-virals worked great, but the refills have done nothing.
