My life lately. I’m so bummed with not being able to see live music much at all anymore. A friend took me to see Eric Gales a month ago but the massive disco ball had me sick within minutes. I’ve missed a certain band 3 times now due to not being able to make the drive.

What’s really crappy is that my wife and I are contract photographers for Merlefest every year. It’s coming up at the end of April and I just had to let them know I wouldn’t be making it this year due to MM. last year was a challenge and I know I would be asking for trouble to try and do it this time. Shooting that event is probably the most exciting thing I do all year. My wife is still going to go, I’ll be home with the kids. Hopefully we can do something fun.

  2. So, last night I just couldn’t handle hearing the randy lady upstairs. When the loud squeaking started on round two, she got a blast of music that I don’t believe is to her liking. Squeaking stopped, I got to sleep. I guess I’m the one who scored ;D

Post a song that you'll always connect to a relationship.

I had a huge crush on a girl in high school. Amy. I looked forward to math class every other day so we could talk. We never dated for certain reasons but I was terribly fond of her. It was fall in Ohio and after school I'd put the record on the living room stereo and sit back and stare at the swaying orange and yellow trees and wish so hard that she were my girlfriend. "A thousand years between", was the line that got me then. And now it really does seem that long ago. I actually can't listen to the song now. Just too affecting. Especially the sad-beautiful guitar solo.

Of course it would be a Zeppelin song. Mine is too. Except the terms are different. Opposite in fact. High school girlfriend, cheating and carrying on.

Bummed that the “How The West Was Won” version has been taken down as it’s far superior to the album version.

Here’s another one for ya Pup. Picture me in 11th grade. Pretty much a loner, loser, hopelessly in love with the coolest guy in school’s GF. Katie, she really had it going on. And what made it worse is that they were actually really cool to me for some reason. There was nothing to hate about that couple. I hope for their sake they are married with kids somewhere.

But in 1996 this album came out and I would torture myself with this song thinking about her.

Mbug, that's a pretty song by Pumpkins. That was a great time in music.

Since I've Been Lovin' You. Just incomparable.

Too bad about that crush of yours.

I can only speak for myself. I'm glad I wasn't involved with girls in high school. I wouldn't have been able to handle with all my other issues. I'd probably be one of those guys who's gf breaks up with him so he hangs himself. This attractive shock... girl asked me if I'd be her prom date and I said no. What kind of a guy says no to a pretty girl asking him to prom? Instead I probably wandered around the lake by myself on prom night smoking joints. Nice. jesus...

Underrated punk band The Adverts. This is a song about a guy who had an eye transplant and his new eyes happened to be the old eyes of a serial killer.

Trying to make a playlist of songs to play when I'm super downn and need something to rev me back up. To instead of laying down, get on the bike and ride.

This is about the sweetest happiest song I've ever heard. Lots of people think I'm a fruitcake for loving the video, but video reminds me of great times as a kid with friends.

I dare you to feel drab watching this.

Snarky Puppy - We Like It Here

Jazz fusion funk whathaveyou band of a bunch of super talented session musicians recording an album in a studio in one take, with an audience. Insanely good, if you are in to that kind of thing.

Mike Watt and the Secondmen - Boilin’ Blazes

    Abandon all hope? NO!
    Relinquish all hope? NO!
    Surrender all hope? NO!
I’m gonna make through this hell ride
    Abandon all hope? NO!
    Relinquish all hope? NO!
    Surrender all hope? NO!
I’m gonna hold on to my life

Watt wrote this entire album about his experience with a perineum infection that almost killed him.

Mbug, it's almost comical how I hate almost every song you post.

I did enjoy his cooking video. I wish I had an uncle like Mike Watt.

This is one of my favorite songs ever, so you'll be sure to be all "meh". The Smiths - "I know it's over." Pretty much perfect lyrics for young misfits who can only love from a distance. Never getting to be with her. What do they call that crap, unrequited love? God this song used to make my heart ache.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIKmbCeIFWA

Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
And as I climb into an empty bed
    Oh well, enough said

    I know it's over - still I cling
I don't know where else I can go

Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
See, the sea wants to take me
The knife wants to cut me
Do you think you can help me?

Sad veiled bride, please be happy
    Handsome groom, give her room
Loud, loutish lover, treat her kindly
Though she needs you more than she loves you

    And I know it's over - still I cling
I don't know where else I can go
Over and over and over and over

    I know it's over
    And it never really began
But in my heart it was so real
And you even spoke to me, and said:
    "If you're so funny
Then why are you on your own tonight?
    And if you're so clever
Then why are you on your own tonight?
    If you're so very entertaining
Then why are you on your own tonight?
    If you're so very good-looking
Why do you sleep alone tonight?"

    I know...
'Cause tonight is just like any other night
That's why you're on your own tonight
With your triumphs and your charms
While they're in each other's arms...

    It's so easy to laugh
    It's so easy to hate
It takes guts to be gentle and kind
    Over, over

    Love is natural and real
But not for you, my love
    Not tonight, my love
    Love is natural and real
But not for such as you and I, my love

I take pride in disappointing you Pupper. When I choose a song to post here I make sure that mess is Pupper proof.

But yeah Mike Watt is a character. He’s basically The Godfather Of The San Pedro music scene. He prides himself on jamming “econo” and living out of an Ford Econoline van while touring. This video made me laugh because that’s exactly how I envisioned him living.

I can dig the Smiths. Just a little before my time but they are a solid band.

I recall seeing a Minutemen documentary with Watt driving around in a van. Great guy. Uncles are good. One of my favorites flew off a sea cliff in his car in Chile and died at 27.

Here is a song that really gets me going when I'm feeling down, spiritually and physically. It's by Guided by Voices. "Watch Me Jumpstart". Sounds like a garage version of early Beatles.

Sorry about your uncle. The older I get the more I realize my family was either really messed up, or we were just not social, or a combination thereof. I didn’t really know my family outside of my parents that well at all. Being the youngest cousin on both sides by a large margin didn’t help either. Nobody wanted to hang with the little kid. Anyways..

I’m digging that guitar tone. Nice and raw.
