Famvir Question

Discussion in 'Your Living Room' started by [email protected], May 1, 2018.

  1. So my insurance had some issues for about a week and I wasn't able to take my Famvir. I definitely noticed a worsening of my hyperaccusis and fullness. I finally got my prescription filled today and my question is should I continue with two pills once a day or up it for awhile? It's been so long that I'm on the maintenance dose, I don't even remember what the higher dose protocol was!!! Anyone else have this issue?
    Thanks!

Are you taking 2 doses of 500mg? Highest dose basically is 500 tid. Famvir is not an expensive drug. You can get it from mom and pop pharmacy for 1$ a pill for Northstar. So you have been taking 2 500 mg doses? For how many months? I am interested to know . Thanks

  3. I have been taking 500mg (250mg x 2 pills) once a day for about 6-8 months. I did Dr. Gacek’s regimen of 500mg 3 x a day for three weeks and then 2 x a day for three weeks and then the maintenance dose -which is what I’ve been on. Trying to decide if I should up it again since missing a week.

I guess it depends on how bad you are doing and how many pills you have available. What is holding you back from increasing the dose temporarily?

I say go up to 750 mg per day and split it into three separate doses like 8am 3pm and 11pm

  6. I’ve been doubling the dose and just hope if I run out my dr. will refill it early. We’ve had crazy weather here the last couple of weeks as well so that could be contributing to some of my issues also!

I coughed up big bucks for brand name Valtrex and it just might be helping, so I won’t change yet.

But maybe eventually I’ll look for a cheaper route. I know to avoid the generic mylan valtrex.

I see some of you are doing well on generic famvir (Famciclovir)? I’m in canada so I don’t know if the generic brands are the same but please let me know your experiences with cheaper famvir!
