I'm thinking about asking my doctor about either Verapimil or Effexor for migraine, as I suspect this may be the cause of some of my vertigo. It's hard to tell because sometimes I get really strong headaches during a vertigo attack and sometimes just have mild headaches with no attack. I've read it's pretty common for those with meniere's to also have migraines and wonder if it's just all in the same condition. I've been on Effexor in the past for about 3 years and had a really hard time coming off of it (gave me some really wierd "brain shocks" feeling and dizziness), so I am reluctant to go down that road again, but I've read it is used to treat migraines. I don't know if Verapimil is even prescribed here in the U.S. and wonder what the common side effects might be. I have been to a neurologist and he prescribed Imitrex, but I never did try it as I was anxious about the side effects and just overwhelmed by all the other remedies I was trying at the time. And, its a long journey for me back to him (a 1.5 hour car ride and at least a 3 month wait for an appointment). Also, he said that if the headache doesn't start first, then the vertigo attack wasn't migraine related, contrary to what my ENT has said. I suspect no one really knows. Is this worth pursuing or are there more natural remedies?
My neuro likes it he said he is thinking of taking it himself. He said it protects the brain. Only side effect is constipation which Acivia takes care of.
